IDEA: Change the new players spawn point.

First off, I know this was rejected in the past but here's my idea:
Change the new players spawn point.

My reason being that if new players spawn somewhere, there could be a line of rules on signs. The new player will have to read the rules else they will not be able to exit, for at the end of the line there is a sign with the command to leave on. (/spawn)

No, since all other players still need a /spawn command. The death point might be set here though, however if a player has already done this, they will know the command and not have to read the rules.

There used to be a different spawn for new players back in the beginning of 3.0, but most new players either read the rules or don't, so all this would really do is prevent them from seeing spawn city when they first join.

Meh. Putting them in a new place would just mean the inconvenience of needing to run down a hallway while ignoring signs - ultimately, it's very difficult to make players read something that they're not interested in reading. Some servers I've been on have redstone circuits that keep new players in a spawn room until they've read the signs (with the signs also providing directions about which buttons/levers to use to get out), but this would be a lot of work for staff and a lot of inconvenience for new players.

We (or at least I) agree that there's a problem with new players failing to read the rules. I just don't agree that this proposal would be able to solve the problem.

I think you are suggesting something like this? Its designed so you are forced to look at the really important signs by walking towards them in a 1x1 hallway. Although it is restrictive, and there is probably a much better design then this one, I think this could be an Idea to think about.

I vote no, simply because I remember when I first came to this server I was looking for a good server that I could frequent after mastering MC in singleplayer, and getting bored with it. I must've joined 11 different servers that all spawned me in some room far away from the regular world, and I hated it. Thats when why I joined MR I was refreshed to see that I was spawned right into the middle of a city with everyone else and all I had to do was walk out.

This may not be same thing seeing as its just moving them to the rules area but I suppose I've developed a psychological complex for rooms with text all over the walls.

As far as this being an improvement on the rate of newbies getting banned I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that when a person comes to our server for the first time they have an agenda of either trolling/griefing or they have a genuine interest in merely surviving with the rest of us. If the latter is the case they will come across the rules on their own like I did. If they're the former than they will be banned because they have no regards for rules to begin with.

The new spawn (only for first time joiners) could be under the current one (beside trade) and when they take the stairway up and see the magnificent Spawn City and a bunch of Quart Blocks that no one can stand on.
