There's a grief that can't be spoken.
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables
Now my friends are dead and gone.

Here they talked of revolution.
Here it was they lit the flame.
Here they sang about `tomorrow'
And tomorrow never came.

From the table in the corner
They could see a world reborn
And they rose with voices ringing
I can hear them now!
The very words that they had sung
Became their last communion
On the lonely barricade at dawn.

Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone.
There's a grief that can't be spoken.
There's a pain goes on and on.

Phantom faces at the window.
Phantom shadows on the floor.
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will meet no more.

Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will meet no more

To grief, or not to grief: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer from thy absence of loot
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to abstain from a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To stay: to stop;
No more; and by a grief to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That zombie-flesh is heir to, ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To stay, to stop;
To grief: perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub;
For in that loot of banning what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this block disappearance,
Must give us pause: there’s the disrespect
That makes calamity of so long a ban;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of banning,
The admin's wrong, the proud man’s contumely,
The pangs of despised judgement, Texas' delay,
The insolence of X-ray and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his grief make
With a stack of cobblestone? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under an empty inventory,
But that the dread of something after banning,
The undiscover’d server from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make heroes of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the judged cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.–Soft you now!
The fair Banning! Loot, in thy inventory
Be all my sins remember’d.

There once was a griefer at spawn,
Who tried to destroy the lawn.
Since it was protected,
And greatly respected,
He was slaughtered by astronaut_wan.

Hi all. I've been playing minecraft for a little less than a year, and I've been on minerealm for a couple of months. I took a short break in minerealm after getting teleported into lava and losing my good gear when I hit the world's edge, but recently I started playing again.

First, let me say that wandering through the world is amazing. The structures and town that people have created are beautiful to look at. I've spent some time on the outer edge of the world, purchased four realms, and built a small building. But I have been pretty much doing it alone.

I can definitely empathize with some of the comments I saw earlier. I'm going to add my specific impressions below. Note that I'm certainly not trolling here. At this point, I don't have an emotional attachment to the server and people - that may change, but I'm not here with an agenda. Just want to describe what I see as a server noob.

The world is a lonely place
Especially out where I am. I had a hard time finding an initial realm where I wouldn't trash someones (probably abandoned) work. But as I wander around, there are structures everywhere on public land, some of which are very impressive. Even some of the private realms are impressive and lonely. Roanoke is near me (I'm in the southeast area of the map) and along with another town or two are astounding. But there is never critical mass from having a large group working on them. These cities seem like one-man projects.

In addition, the cities are sadly, not very interactive. I think a lot of this comes from anti-griefing. Personally, I put things back the way they were (replant trees, breed cattle, whatever) whenever I put change something, but obviously there are people who aren't has nice.

Chat is a joke
It is almost impossible follow anything in public chat. It scrolls too fast and is filled with random people joining and leaving the game, along with the unfortunate noise of new players and the never-ending ban-bot.

The world is too used
Perhaps I've gotten used to just spawning new zones on my personal server, but it's kind of nice when the resources I need are just over the next hill. This just doesn't exist at all in minerealm. Although I've been able to mine diamonds efficiently in my realm, it really is swiss cheese from previous miners. And just finding the resources I want to set up my own farms is ridiculous. I wandered for over two hours before I found a chicken in the wild, on private land. Leading him back was not an option, so I just spent eight hours in a box collecting enough eggs to seed my chickens. I eventually found a cactus which was part of building in a public area. I knocked it down and replanted. Which leads to....

Greedy people really turn off new players
People will sell you anything in the game - cows, sheep, potatoes, jungle saplings, pumpkins. But I'm working hard enough just to earn the credits to buy a realm. I have no desire to work another three hours to pay someone for an item that is only valuable because of an artificial scarcity. It breeds an unpleasant community and it undoubtedly pisses off a lot of new players.

To be fair, I have been given a few items by some nice players who see this, but none-the-less, the crass mercantilism that goes on is going to drive new players away.

Suggestion
I do have a suggestion for this. I see people talking about resetting the public areas. I'd like to suggest a more focused version of this. Rather than trying to reset a large portion of the world, create a large number of 'public parks' that are reset on a regular basis. Scatter then throughout the world so that new players can take advantage of them. Don't let them be owned, allow anyone to build there with the knowledge that the area will be reset within a month. There is plenty of public land laying around that could be used for this.

I could see this destroying a lot of markets. As a new player, I don't really care. But I do see how it could annoy many other players.

Be clearer with your history
Posts seem to allude to various things that took place in minerealm's history. The YouTube trolling and the server battles that led to a lot of people leaving are two that seem to have been mentioned on this thread. Well, stop beating about the bush. Post a history of these things so that new players know exactly what happened and how things were handled. Be upfront about it.

Encourage more group/world projects
I think the subway system is great. Figuring out how to get more new players involved in things like this would certainly help retention. Of course, as pointed out above, they're not going to be bringing much in the way of resources, just labor. Unfortunately, the 'realm' design of the world must throw a lot of hurdles up in this.

Make the looting rules clearer
You have a very hard time explaining this rule to a newcomer. Part of the reason is that it's really two or three different rules and part of it is very subjective. I've asked staff for clarification a couple of times and gotten no response. (In fairness, they could have been busy with other things and missed my tell).

There are buildings everywhere on public land. They range from mud huts to major developments. They have things ranging from a chest of cobblestones to other very valuable stuff.

There seem to be two situations in which the rule makes sense:
[*]An active player who has just started, but cannot yet afford to buy the realm he is working in. (For this person, a chest of wood and stone is extremely valuable)
[*]A player who has left the game, leaving behind a build that is amazing and the various stuff used to build it.

In every other case, the realm should be available for reuse by a new player or an established player that needs more space.

The problem, of course is that it's very subject to say when these requirements have been met. Even though I tried really hard to find a location that had little or no development, I'm sure that I probably did something that was a ban-able offense. New players who are trying to understand the rules are pretty much afraid to do anything and are certainly not willing to invest time in a realm where they might get banned for knocking down a mud house.

Suggestion
I've got some ideas about how to remedy this, but they may impractical or hard to implement.

Give new players faster (but limited) access to the protections a realm offers. Let them buy their first realm for 1000rc but have it revert if they don't make up the remaining 9000rc within two weeks. Once they have the realm, their looting problem goes away.

Give staff the ability to note realms as notable - based on the effort and results. If they are abandoned, they don't revert to public. If someone really wants one, have them go through a manual vetting process before they can buy it. New players should build something from the ground up, not just buy someone else's work.

Although I know that physically moving realms around is fraught with problems, if there was anyway to move these realms to the outside perimeter of the world, it would assure their safety, and let new players have some choicer building spots.

Thanks to anyone who read this far. I hope my comments prove useful and I'll hope to see you in the game.

So here I am back in minerealm yesterday logging in for the first time this year. The last I logged in was about 11 months ago. Reason I left. : at that time I don't think there a teleporter and I have to walk absurd distance to a so called noob haven.
2. 2 : I received no help at all and I don't even know how to use that subways.
Now that I am back there some things I realized. The spawn changed there is a teleporter which help Now in the wildness there barely any tree at all.I found someone called sliverwolf and I found about 5 ruins 1 even message to his friend telling him to come back to the sever and a desert cleared of sand
