To make details: build circles around what you want to edit, and make a staircase going up to it. add details. Take down circles.

Honestly, it really isn't rocket science.
Scaffolds are annoying to remove. I spend as much time adding/removing scaffolds when spriting as I actually spend spriting. If I could fly around, I could spend less time preparing to build as actually building, therefore allowing me to have even more time to build. More building time would let us make more awesome creations, which would make people want to stay on the server and add their own.
I second this.'

EDIT: But after thinking about it, it would also take the fun out of highways and subways...

I know how to build a tower, but hop 'n' drop only goes too far.

And scaffolding is indeed annoying to remove.

Wow, I can't believe how lazy people are. It's not that hard. Go to the top, destroy as you work your way to the bottom. Seriously. It may take another 5-20 minutes, depending on how big it is and the complexity, but really that isn't that long. Annoying and tedious, maybe, but putting the flying mod in just makes you seem lazy.

The only reason you're arguing against flymod is because it's often used in negative context. I'd like those 5-20 minutes to build stuff for the good of the server. If mods can punch in a command to completely rewind what a flying griefer just did, what does it matter? The argument is this : Flymod is good for building, but can be used to grief. Now, the rollback feature turns it into this: Flymod is good for building, but-.

That is why I don't completely agree with the new rollback feature.

One question: How does building 20 minute structures assist the 'good of the server'? I think everyone is just getting lazy. I personally refuse to install hacks on my minecraft, and I'm sure there are many others who would prefer not to do that as well. That would 'give the player an unfair advantage in the game, and over other players'. i believe that's how some classified hacks. Another way of putting it is: A hack can be classified as any modification that alters movement speed or direction, the ability to ignore in-game physics, block-breaking speed, ability to spawn items, duping items, and X-Ray (transparent) texture packs. (quote from panthers17nfl)

All in all, I just don't think it's right to have a hacking server, even if the hacks are technically not illegal. This would also chase away non-hacking players, and encourage hacking players to come to our server.

I am completely neutral in this flymod argument. I have used flymods before on other creative servers, its great for building flying structures, anything you build from the ground up doesn't need them. Nothing needs them. But sometimes its great. I remember one server had a few specific rules, no speed multipliers over 2.0 and absolutely no overseas travel. which meant people had to build their subways and railways.

My summary is that its good/useful and griefing is not a particular issue with the commands, however it could reduce the time it would take a griefer to destroy something. If rules are kept in place restricting people from flying overseas it maintains the fun of subways/railways. Not like subways are fun at all....
There are some things though, like my giant spaceships that flymod would make easier. But its not at all 'hard' as it is.

A cool way of restricting the use of flymods would be to only allow players with 24+hours playtime can use them.

How exactly do you stop some one from flying over an ocean.

By the magical art of programming.

Anyway I don't support flymods. They add a gameplay mechanic that is far from what was originally intended, and in addition, think seriously about this. This would tell new players: "we don't mind hacks". Also, imagine what structures would be favored: Things that are radically different than what Minecraft is made to be.
