Change of subject: Granny Smith.

So, first of all, what do you guys think about her age? Apparently she was a kid when Ponyville was founded, making her hundreds of years old. I personally like the idea of her being really old, although it might seem a bit unlikely. Thoughts?

EDIT: There's also the fact that her grandmother (or was that great-grandmother) is still alive and well, according to Apple Family Reunion...o_o

Aren't horses only supposed to live for like, 25-30 years? But then again, we think that Twilight and AJ are in there early 20s..So Granny Smith could be a couple hundred years old.

My favorite song is Smile or What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me. My favorite episodes is Lesson Zero or Party Of One, it's awesome when the characters go insane. The only one who hasn't yet is AJ.

My favorite song is probably Winter Wrap Up, mostly because every time I hear it, it gets stuck in my head. My favorite episode is Dragonshy, but Party Of One is a close second.

A very good fic, probably the best I've ever read. There are others like it, but it's far superior in my opinion. It's like a twisted version of Lao-Tsu and the butterfly, if he didn't wake up.

Basically, Twilight wakes up in a mental hospital, apparently she's schizophrenic, her life is supposedly all imagined, but not exactly, and a lot of things are very suspicious and confusing. It's all a bunch of mind games that keeps you in constant suspense. Oh, and also, it's not dark. A bit sad, but not dark or horror or anything. Just a bunch of mind games without an outside perspective to see whether they're true or not, constant reference to the fact that mental hospitals often keep patients who have no illnesses whatsoever because they assume they do and imagine symptoms, and the self-judgement dilemma: is it possible to decide whether you're crazy, how distorted is your view of the world, and strong evidence on both sides, evidence of a cover-up and strange things that don't make sense, as well as psychotic episodes (but are they what they seem?).

Y'all should check it out, it's excellent.

Most probable answer is a writers' goof, someone forgot to put someone in charge of internal continuity.

Ignoring the most simple solution what other solutions are?

What if Granny Smith is of a similar age to a regular old person e.g. between 80 years to slightly over 100 years then either Granny Smith is mistaken or Twilight Sparkle is.

1) Granny Smith is "just a cooky old lady"-Diamond Tiara
Ponyville is hundreds of years old.
Granny Smith may have got some details wrong about the Smith's involvement.
I.E. Ponyville had some settlements buildings and farms with Earth Ponies, but the Smith's arrrival and discovery of the Zzap Apples made Ponyville from just a hamlet into the bustling town it is today? Maybe?

2) Twillight Sparkle is mistaken
Granny Smith is correct in all of her recollections. Ponyville was founded within her lifetime.
Earth Ponies don't use magic in the way that Unicorns do and that is an Earth Pony tradition that does date back hundreds of years. However since Ponyville is a relatively recent settlement which was founded by Earth Ponies, their customs have been carried over.
Canterlot is different because its predominantly a Unicorn settlement and a center of government, culture and learning.

3) Granny Smith is reeaallly old
Both Twilight's and Granny's statements/stories are correct. Ponyville has traditions that date back to it's founding which is roughly over 200 years. Granny Smith must be that old.

I like to assume the third However, even if we assume the second or first, we still have to deal with the fact that Applejack's great-great-great (-great?)-grandmother is still alive and (apparently) well, according to Apple Family Reunion.
