Well I'm sure the server is pretty different from when he was still playing. Op OP and ☺ haven't done MR any favors. It's just become a noob ridden grief/hack/loot fest. Still I gots mah build buddies and that's all that matters.

As most players (I think) feel, and/or most players who left feel, Minerealm is becoming a server with a clear distinction between the noob masses and the selcect few middle class, and then the very few 1M+ crediters. This was why Dave didn't want to appeal in the first place (unless I misunderstood), and probably why he doesn't want to come back now :/

No, Minerealm is an extraordinarily different place now. There's very little to work for. I wouldn't consider myself amongst the richest on Minerealm, I have roughly 30 realms, and generally dont need to care about how many credits I have. If there is something I want I can have it. The situation us end-game players are left in is a state of almost alpha style creative mode.

We are invincible. We have infinite funds at our disposal. There are no goals.

The game becomes creative mode with an annoying survival aspect. We strive to create the greatest things we can, when we are essentially unbound by resources. Though many of us find the hunt for extra resources fun, its mostly unrewarding. This could merely be the fault of late game Minecraft itself, but the system Minerealm uses highlights it quite clearly.

Another issue is that people simply move on. Sir_Dave returned to the server, quite probably expecting a huge party to greet him, when in reality, the core player base of all those months ago has all but disappeared.

You could say I've moved on. Most of Silverlight has moved on; though we all hop on to refresh our realms and catch up. I do want to finish Sub Aurora one day. But that day probably wont be soon. That day will be the day I find Minecraft fun again. Whether that be in a few weeks, maybe a few months. We shall see.

The odds are, Dave merely over anticipated what Minerealm would be like when he returned, and was not happy with what he saw. I understand that, I just haven't yet given up hope.

I was in that kind of situation for a while at one point. After playing a ton of minecraft, I eventually just started to get bored of it. Tried playing Tekkit for a while to keep things fresh, but I quickly got bored of that too. Still logged on to keep my realms around, and occasionally to do a little bit of work on a building, but that was about it. You can point to the problems minerealm has been having lately as a reason to leave or become inactive, but at least in my particular case, the reasons for becoming inactive had more to do with me than with the server.

I wouldn't really say that Intelli deeming a certain server to be 'forbidden' and banning anyone who went on it for asinine reasons would be considered Sir_Dave's fault.

Still isnt anyone but his own.

The key is to limit yourself to 2-3 hours per week. That way, you are constantly striving for more, and don't get bored as easily. After about 1.5-7 years of doing this, I only have 8 realms, none of which are spawn.

I think some are missing the point. Yes the server is different. Yes most of us think it was better back then. But Dave stated that it left bad memories, those that he did not want to return to. From someone who is more emotionally detached, I cannot fathom what it is like. I simply don't have that many 'bad' memories, and I actively suppress them. I like to keep things objective.

Whatever the true reason for Dave's sudden return then possible departure, there is no point debating it. The human mind is a complex organ, that, for some, is hard to predict. It is Dave's fault for leaving, that was his action (duh). However, to leave in this manner, there must have been external influences. That is not his fault.

If this is a false departure, then welcome (sort of) back Dave.
If this is a true departure, then goodbye.
