B.L.U.R.S. -- BLUebaron's Rail System

BLURS is now bidirectional! Hooray!

BLURS is an attempt to create a reliable mode of transportation throughout the entire Creative server.

Goals of BLURS:
  • Instantiate simple transportation through a wide area
  • Have a consistent look for the railway so it doesn't look like patchwork
  • Have a railway with nice features that everyone can utilise
  • Provide a way of easily getting from spawn to places like, oh, say... BaronLand? :roll:
HOW TO GET TO BLURS

BLURS is relatively close to spawn, which although makes it a bit more likely to get griefed, is necessary. Going really far to get to a rail station to take you really far is a bit counterproductive.

First, look for this Reckless Tortuga display, slightly south from spawn.

Go behind it. You will spot a small hole where one may enter a cave.

Once you enter the cave, it will split. Do not light up any part of the cave. Take a right. Go all the way down that curvy tunnel until you see a dark, perfectly square corridor. When you enter the corridor, the redstone torches will alight in order all the way down the hall, until they open the door. It's a rather neat effect, if I do say so myself. You are now in BLURS central.

WHAT TO DO ONCE ONE IS INSIDE BLURS

BLURS is not at all similar to a token-ring network, if we were to compare it to something. There are four roads that diverge from the hub, and each of these go in a cardinal direction.

So, go into the door that will go in the direction of your desired stop. Put the cart on the track and press the button.

If you couldn't figure out how to do that without this guide, you are unbelievably dense.

This isn't honestly that hard to figure out, just read the signs.

HOW ONE EXTENDS THIS TO THEIR ATTRACTION

One does not. At least, not without supervision from me. I don't want these tunnels going all over the place or looking all ugly with inconsistencies riddled about. If you want to help, or you want your whatever-it-is to have a stop, PM me and I'll decide whether it's stopworthy, and if so, I will install it myself for you. Some of the reasons I can't let people make their own stops is a.) I want to use buttons, and for some reason when you have a button directly power a powered rail, the cart doesn't move and b.) You would stop so much it would be slower than walking there.

If it's easy to get to, it's easy to grief. This way, people are less likely to stumble upon it and reek havoc.

I am not saying to make it super easy! I just mean that one torch every 20 or so blocks in BOTH directions (to confuse people) would be nice. I had to place and then destroy glowstone ever 20 blocks so I could make sure I wasn't running into a wall for twenty minutes.

EDIT: Can I join the dev team?

people haven't griefed it in a little bit... XD Perhaps the lack of value to item blocks, as well as the fact that things might have been rolled back made things easier. Also, the only griefer that went my way just damaged track a little... I was from my place to spawn in about 5 minutes... XD

Now rereading it I found something out! If you want to compare it to something, compare it to the French railways. Each station focuses on going in one direction!

Also, you might want to do some work on the path there. It is choppy, and since it is dark you may think you're walking when you are running into a 1x1x1 hole, not that that happened from experience... :lol:
