Dear Rokkrwolf312,
I find myself appealing to you again on behalf of smash3636. After the tears and frustration passed, we had a calm discussion about his greifing and the ban. It turns out that Max wasn't just being a knucklehead and he made a couple of astute points that I did not know how to answer. Perhaps you can help. (The following are my words for his points - it would take too long to ask them in his words.)
Max asked what constitutes a structure that should not be greifed. In his mind, he was thinking houses, structures and chests. He was not thinking track. I made the point to him that anything crafted, such as track, was put down with purpose so it should be left alone.
Max then referred to a crafted structure that he and I both greifed unknowingly - it's a remote realm of dirt one layer think placed on the water. It is very flat like a soccer field and it is huge. We roamed on it and I dug into it and fell through. Luckily I was close to the edge and was able to swim under it to get back out. I did repair it because I thought it looked better clean rather than disrupted with a hole. But I was left wondering whether this constitutes greifing? After all, the blocks were not crafted but they were certainly not random - someone constructed it.
In my own experience, I've noticed that wood seems rather scarce and when I roam looking for wood, I have now become concerned about chopping down trees on someone else's land. Perhaps someone planted the trees for themselves and I am greifing them - it can be difficult to tell unless the land is private.
I did not see the realm where Max greifed the tracks so I don't know whether there was only track running across an otherwise undeveloped realm or whether it was clear that someone was settling the land and had some claim on it. But Max did acknowledge that he understands now that the track was crafted by someone and would not have been left there arbitrarily. As such, he now understands that it constituted greifing and he is sorry. He even mentioned that he has diamonds that he would happily surrender to the owner he greifed in hopes of forgiveness.
Clearly there are some ambiguities in public lands. But this case is now clear to Max - he now understands that all crafted artifacts are to be left alone. I am hoping that you will give Max another chance. His buddy Alex will be with us tonight and I know they would love to play together on MineRealm. I also know that Max understands this would be his last chance if you grant it to him.
Thanks,
Dave (dsprogis)
PS Assuming you are willing to give him one last chance, is there any way he can get to my realm easily? Walking would take forever, I am at (-3992, 1992). I think both Max and Alex would benefit from being on my realm where they can mine with purpose. My only thought was to try teleporting a few times and try to get into the neighborhood then walk the rest. But even that would be tough.
