My Solution:

Make the map incredibly huge. Say, 20,000x20,000 or even BIGGER. Have very few plugins, just the /home and /spawn, messaging maybe, maybe a PvP Kill announcer, etc. Nothing too heavy.


This keeps it relatively vanilla. For those of you that say "well then it'll be no different than any other servers". Do you forget Realm Wars? Our News? Our Community in general? It is perfect in my opinion, without these realms that make us so isolated and forget what Minecraft is really about.

We wouldn't crave realms if we weren't so bad at protecting our belongings. Kurachi survived for over a month and a half being ALMOST completely visable from spawn and also being the most publicly known city on the server. It made it through without realms or any fancy protection system.

I agree with Intelli on this. Griefing isn't necessarily "good". It is frowned upon. But it makes the server feel more alive, and makes things feel more fluid when you know that something bad could happen and change your status quo. It's what makes this fun.


Build far from spawn if you are terrified of griefing. I will tell you that there will be some people that build cities close to spawn but pay the price of admission by constantly repairing griefs, but benefiting from being much more popular.

Without realms, the server will go on. You'll find a way. Just build far from spawn. More amazing is that our server develops its own methods of having fun, even in a vanilla environment. I will work to adapt Realm Wars to a hopefully more Vanilla, yet expansive setting that we will see in 3.0. The News will live on, Realm Wars, LBG, spleef, hidden far away cities that are made possible when realms are disabled, and all of the other endless amounts of possibilities will live on in 3.0.

I'd like to add something to what Panthers said, which he may or may not agree on.

When we bought Minecraft, we didn't buy this game with all of these perks all of you spoiled brats have. We didn't buy the game with Bukkit. The game didn't come with a home. It didn't even come with damn buckets active. We got a stripped down, vanilla Minecraft, that had to be modded with godawful mods just for the /home and /spawn commands, and God forbid much more advanced features without instability.

You all, every one of you new kids on this block, have become accustomed to having things handed to you. Griefing protection? Oh yes. Theft protection? Daddy please! Warps out the ass? Mommy make it happen!

Well I'm doing a 180 degree turn and saying throw out realms completely, throw out theft protection, and go vanilla to almost the core. Perhaps block protection on mineral blocks, with a /spawn and a /home, but everything else? Fair game, baby.

I'd be down for the return of the real Minecraft, without this make up and everything that's been applied. Massive maps and no realm system? Minecraft how is was meant to be played? I'd hit that like Jessica Alba on Megan Fox.

Indeed. MineRealm was also founded with Vanilla principles.

i vote for super huge vanilla map Vote Super-Huge Vanilla Map for President 2011 for *1!!! but with one difference. The plots stay. They are just references (the motd is cool, without it there is no need for plots). Thats it for plots. Then a one time warp for players that have never visited a populated realm. so people dont have to walk 10,000 blocks to get to you, but can put a bed there or set their home and be able to get back quickly. i dont know how it would work, the only good thing about realms was the ability to invite members and then let them get there quickly.

Hmmm... map size? realms? When it comes to map sizes, people are always arguing smaller, and bigger... Same goes with realms and no realms... Why not just keep things the way they are, on the future map, with the improvements that are/will be discussed? I know, a number of you like those bigger maps, but, in reality, would we be losing what makes this server so much better than most others?

Pfft. Warping to start means not seeing the entire world. I'm not sure who you are, I'm fairly certain you've been around as long as I have, but if you have, you ought to remember we didn't get spoiled brat warps to our towns. We had to brave the wilderness of Minecraft just to reach it.

That's Minecraft. The warps aren't Minecraft.

Ok, I've always really liked realms, but then I also like the way panthers put it, I remember back in minerealm 2.0 I lived and worked in Aquaria, it was really fun we did community projects like building the spleef arena and working on the bottom level and etc. But the community of it was a really fun part of the game that is missing, all I do now is sit away in lumina and experiment with monster spawners lol, so it would be really nice to add that community feeling back to the game, oh and I really want and REALLY am pushing for a map wipe when 1.6 comes out ... INTELLI PLEEEAASSEEE :)

Heh. Void chunks. I abused those so much for diamonds. Willowside, Tinderbox, and a couple other realms have talked about making tunnels way back in the past, but I always back out because I can just warp to spawn and walk the rest of the way. It takes away that sense of exploration that Minecraft was basically founded on.

Playing Elder Scrolls games, I always felt the urge to go beyond the border and see what other beauties Bethesda had created. When I first played Minecraft, it was as if that childlike sense of wonder was back, but there were no borders. It was just beauty and amazement, and I always had that urge to go over the next hill, the next mountain, the next ocean, to see what lied beyond the fog.

The warps, and Realm system to an extent, has killed that sense of wonder.

At this point, I suspect that the community around here could make do with almost anything and have a good time of it. I liked the countries idea, but i also like the free-range players thing too. At this point, it would be hard to go wrong.
