I also know some players who have got banned for duping, flying, and autobraking blocks. I still think they deserved a second chance :)
Intelli specifically states in the OP that the permaban rule would not apply to accidental bans, and I stated in my post that accidental bans would be an exception to the waiting period. As far as the cheating thing, I feel like people who are flying, duping, or hacking are very purposefully trying to use cheats to make the game easier for themselves, which is why I consider them different from those who committed some minor griefing infraction or whatnot.
It all depends on what you define 'accidental' as. In the case of griefing, I would like to define accidental as those who break the rules unknowingly or were banned 'accidentally' by an admin/mod. Anything where there is a specific intention to harass, grief, X-Ray, fly (etc.) is inexcusable.

The biggest problem, however, is determining if the perpetrator perpetrated ( :P ) accidentally, or on purpose.

To me, "accidental" means something like what 08 said about Wormoxide getting banned for "griefing" his own tunnel, or any number of the players who have gotten banned for breaking the chest of their friend/playing partner this past week. I realize some people may think differently, but to me, getting banned for griefing because you didn't read the rules is not "accidental." Just my take on it anyway.

Not reading the signs is just negligent. Otherwise, our definitions of 'accidental' in this context are very similar.

Edit: I find it nice to have a civil discussion with someone without them getting overly emotionally attached, becoming paradoxical and ultimately flaming because they can't portray their point in a concise manner.

Same. Although when I can't portray my point in a concise manner, I have a nasty habit of portraying it in a very very long manner instead. lol
