I knew this was outrageous from the start... I had to mine out 4 realms about 20 blocks deep. That seemed to take forever, yet still wasn't all the way to bedrock.

I found that I can mine 256 stone in about 1.75 minutes with an efficiency IV unbreaking III diamond pickaxe. That's about 146 stone per minute or about 0.410 seconds per stone.

If you're doing this in an ocean, assume the ocean is 16 blocks deep. So the ocean floor is at y:48. To bedrock, this is 43 layers. For simplicity, assume it's all stone. For 43 layers of 25 realms, using the above rate, it will take you about 18372 minutes of labor or a little more than 306 hours. You'll also need 431 efficiency IV unbreaking III diamond pickaxes. If some pickaxes do not have unbreaking, you'll need more picks. If they don't have efficiency, it will take you longer to mine.

Don't forget, you'll spend some time draining the ocean too.

So I guess you're on par with saying it'll take a few months if you're playing for at least 7 hours per day.

Thanks, that has given some sort of value to use as a time scale, my initial intentions were to try complete it by the 3rd anniversary of Minerealm (just to set some sort of a goal)

In regards to the amount of picks I plan on using just one and repairing it, many, many, many, many times.

The main reason for mining it out to bedrock is to acquire enough credits/resources firstly to purchase all the realms around the island and to build everything, secondly to hopefully become one of the richest people in Minerealm.

I had the idea to fill the area with a vast network of farms, just to fill the space basically.

As well as the farms, I imagine I will stumble upon a few spawners in the 25 realm area and will create multiple grinders also.

I don't know if an admin would possibly do me a teenie weenie favor and change the title of this thread to "The Eden Project" <-- cool name I know ;) .

Too clarify as I forgot to mention earlier the 4,000,000 credit estimation is the 2,000,000 credits received from hollowing the 25 realms, then x amount for building all the farms etc. also x amount for building the actual island. "x" being, I don't have a clue how many I will actually earn from it.
I think the amount that I will actually earn will probably be closer to the 3,000,000 mark than the initial 4,000,000 that I stated in the original post after a bit more thought.

If anyone would like to make donations of any of these items below please post here and keep them aside until I need them, thank you:

I think the game remembers how many times you've repaired a tool and it adds additional experience cost the next time you repair it. You can continue to repair it, but it becomes more and more costly. Eventually it will go over the 40 XP level limit on anvils.

Using sand and gravel is pretty useful as it falls straight down due to gravity but that can be increase time on making the island. Its just a thought as using that many torches can be a nuisance.

I thought about doing that but torches are easier to get hold of in bulk. It isn't actually going to take that long to do I don't think, I have already started and it seems quite efficient so far.

OK then.

Or you can use pistons to push sand or gravel in. You get more credits and get done faster. But it might require a large supply of sand or gravel.

Using pistons still requires that you place the sand or gravel. The pistons just drop it into the water. The difference is you don't have to swim around in water slowly placing dirt and torches.

I attached a world to show you what I mean.
