This idea is terribad and you should feel terribad. Not only has this "fresh start" crap been shot down far too many times to make it seem like a reasonable thing to suggest, but it would also be a "bandaid" like you describe the expansion as being. If the map is wiped and replaced with a brand new 10K x 10K map, how would that remain "fresh" any longer than a 10K x 10K section slapped on to the edge of the current map?
How is it terribad just cause some players fear a fresh start? Everything is a bandaid fix in minecraft cause its always getting new features.

Plus tearing down or just "prettying up" an old/greifed realm still doesnt fix if the realm under the surface is all mined out. Sure if you live close by it looks like but for someone wanting to move in and to find out its like that underneath? They will surely skip over that realm and look for something better.

I am not going to write a lengthy response like everyone else, since most of the problems have been highlighted and discussed. Generally, I like this idea and think it should be implemented. This would also mean that the nether would be expanded (yay). I am still a bit apprehensive about the second spawn though.

No. 2 MILLION realms in a 10,000 x 10,000 area. Though, yes many people live in the realms without purchasing them, I do feel there there is still lots of land.

Some of you guys are missing the point here... What is the harm in having extra land for those who want to start fresh on a clean slate???

It's not like the map expansion will wipe everything and delete your stuff, then you can complain and rightly so.. I mean come on >.> It will only be a good thing... So, why all the No's in the poll?? I don't get it...

Some of the people here would love extra space where they can make huge builds without being crowded around by others... that's the whole point of this topic, some of the junk in the map has just been sitting there and their owners have stopped playing :/ also, if the public land won't be wiped and a map wipe is not going to happen, then what should the people who want fresh land do?!

PS... Not everyone has the patience of making a layer or dirt over an ocean and also I think most people would love a minecraft biome (being in a survival server) rather than flat land. Which IMO is rather obvious.

I feel like a lot of the yes votes are being swayed by all of the new minecraft additions since the map was created. Namely, nether quartz. Not that I blame you, it looks absolutely fantastic.

I just tried to write out a counterpoint to expanding the map and ended up talking myself right out of any objections I once had. Would a bigger map even mean more lag? It's all about how many chunks are loaded not where the chunks are, right?

Hmm...
*sits on fence anyway*

Alex beat me to my first point. :P

Soul: It is rather rude to call everyone who's invested in a project here AFRAID for not wanting to lose their work. Most players that you're attacking have more than earned the right to want their creations to stay.

As to a map wipe, that's right out. Intelli has said repeatedly that it will not happen. Many of the serious players don't want it to happen. It's been shot down, let it alone. Maybe if there are multiple significant updates that dramatically add to and change the way the normal world works, but I don't see that happening in less than the span of a year. So you should wait until about 2014 until you even THINK about evaluating whether we need one.

Rokkr, the problem with oceans is that they're...a problem. There's little-to-no resources THERE to use for building. If you need to level, you need either absurd amounts of patience or specific enchants on your gear. If you just want to build, you need to bring in materials. It takes longer to swim than to walk, and you have a much harder time accessing certain resources, like grinders. Also, while I have some vague ideas for a ship or something, I'm FAR more invested in my land-based project. If someone gave me like 150k to secure the area, I might stop and go use our oceans, but otherwise, I'm involved. I'd be willing to bet this applies to the majority of regulars as well, and newbies have no use at all for oceans. Perhaps they might get some interest if there were an incentive program.

Now, as to the actual suggestion of expansion. It's not the "band-aid solution" some people seem to think it is. No, it's not permanent, but NOTHING will be in a game with as many updates and changes as Minecraft. At the same time, if it works for a year, you know what that will be? A THIRD of Minerealm's existence. That is a significant, long-term solution, particularly for our situation. The only possible problem I see is with server resource consumption, and even then, once it's been rendered, that'll drop off, too.

Oh, and the public land wipe is pretty much right out. It just doesn't give a pretty result.

I don't personally want anything to happen, but if because of votes incase something has to happen, I think a good way to solve it is;

If a public realm hasn't been touched at all in 90 days it will automatically be wiped back to its original form.

What do people think?

Still sounds like people being lazy. I terraformed my whole island last time because of the public wipe it turned all my land into water, I'm not complaining. As far as the rest of the thread tbh it's most likely going to be marked invalid because poll and the post are several different reasons.

I also find it rather amusing you say players want actual biomes and not flat land seeing as almost every place I look that has anything built is guess what.... flat. Kinda ironic don't ya think?

Boat. Trade chest for mats. Tunnels from surface to get underground. Time and effort like people spend terraforming their so called precious land into a flat surface to build what they want when they can just make a sheet of land over the ocean and get same results.

Lets face it, WE NEED SPACE. With all the successful advertising going on we have had a huge increase in the average number of new players on the server. Im getting more nub griefing every day. I don't want them to be banned but they grief because there is a lack of good clear space (and sometimes they just grief to troll). A huge map expansion has been necessary for the longest of time. We can bring in new materials and keep the server up to date with this as well now that 1.5 is around the corner. More players should correlate to a bigger map. I vote yes for any type of reasonable expansion we can get.
