Cheez and I was talking about this earlier. Our realms have always just been friends from real life, and our country would be the same. It would just be depressing or annoying for both parties to log in to find they had been exiled after building a home and chests, or to log in and find someone building and have to deport them for having been born of invisible illegal aliens.

Having to be invited would save us a lot of trouble, and save running a lot of new members off.

It's not possible to deport/remove citizens from your country. Only non-citizens.

But don't you automatically become a citizen when you log in...?

This, no offense, but this sounds like a terrible idea. Half the server can't even get along. What if, say, I started a country before Catsfuzz ever logged in, then he logged in and was birthed into my country as a citizen?

Guess who's boned? Cats and I, and there'd be no fun.

If I'm misunderstanding the system, please clarify.

By default, when MineRealm 3.0 starts, there will be no countries. There will still be a central spawn point, within a neutral plot that can never be conquered.

When a user joins the game for the first time, they will not be a member of any country. However, they can then decide to join any country they wish, without requiring an invite. This is the only time they will be able to join a country without an invite.

There will still be the central /spawn, which people can warp to at any time. However, there will also be a "/country warp" command for each country, so users can easily go to the warp point for the country that they are a member of. When users die, they will return to the warp point for the country that they are a member of.

I think the big reason why there are objections to the immigrant plan is that you are currently equating 3.0 Countries with the current realms. Countries are not meant to be small affairs with just your small group of friends in them. They are meant to be massive expanses of land with multiple cities inside of them. You don't get to exercise the same degree of control over membership because they are meant to be very large.

If you want to make something with just your friends, you can go to one country and make a separate city inside of it. I know that I am already in talks with another realm for us to merge into one country in 3.0. We will probably make 2 separate cities, but we will be one country. Some of our members don't get along, but they aren't required to interact, just like you aren't required to interact with a neighbor you dislike.

There will be substantially fewer countries built than there are realms right now. There are currently 163 realms. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with 10-15 countries. To really understand this system, you need to not try to fit the country idea into the current realm framework.

The problem with this setup is that it prevents a small group of friends from being just that, a small group of friends. Most of those 163 realms were small and had no real effect on much, but the people in them liked it that way. Most of these people don't want to have to deal with large groups like that and if you force them too, they will most likley react in one of two ways. They will either throw a tantrum, make a mess and get banned, or just leave. Either way, we lose players.

Just think about it for a second. 163 realms. Terranobyl has 25 players, 10 active, which is the largest player count by a good margin. The vast majority of the realms are sitting at only a few players each. Remember how the original requirement for having a private realm was 5 players, but then it got lowered to 2 or 3 or some other very small number? The same thing applies here. If a small group wants to stay a small group, they will, no matter what you try and force on them.

Trying to force the small group into a country that they are not interested in will just cause resentment. On the flip side, there will be the people who are trying to build a powerful, large country. They will be trying to select and recruit the more active and powerful players and will consider the small group players an annoyance at best and a severe hindrance at worst. The expansionist will then have resentment to the small group players for taking up their resources, time and land without paying anything back to their effort to conquer the world.

After this has had a bit of time to stew, i suspect there will be a lot of griefing, primarily internal griefing where players are attacking their own country-folk. This will quickly lead to internal war, constant vote fights over leadership, alt stacking of countries to skew the vote, near random attacking and fortifying of different plots as different leaders seize control of the country. Any sort of large scale construction would be near impossible. Countries would eventually be simply ignored and players would either scatter into the wilderness far from any capitol are risk being constantly slain and driven out by ever-shifting country borders.

Dirt pillars would rise into the sky as each leader attempts to prioritize their goals and achieve them before another leader knocks them from the head spot. Most plots would shift owners daily if not faster. Many players would have alts in multiple different countries and the difference between countries would fade to a hazy, blurred line as each player simply focuses on settling their own personal grudges with other players.

This is all assuming of course that the small group players don't simply leave and that there are still enough players to create this mess.

Personally, I would love this. This terrible post-apocalyptic, mad-max, style world. However, I suspect that most players would not like this, not at all.

I think that perhaps the world could be 15000x15000 or 10000 x 10000 but the outer reaches could be known as 'the wilds' or something. this area would reset once a month or less. this would be good for players that like surviving. I think the area would be good for players who like surviving rather than building.
to account for lag i think that civilised countries could have reduced mob spawn rates while the outer land has no countries/realms and PVP and full mobs.
i realise this could be hard to program or sustain, but it would be a great dynamic for the game. It would allow us to survive how we think is fun while only having to play on one server.
I would probably spend more time in these outer reaches.
Also, you said in a previous post that this might be mainly for classic, which is clearly noit true. will we be seeing any changes to that?
I like how classic is now, but i also love creating while being able to fly/use unlimited resources.

These are all ideas. i dont think i have said anything that will drastically change any aspect of gameplay. i hope (except maybe the classic ideas...).

Im not sure how this is better for anti greifing still. In the current minerealm you just plop down a realm and your house is safe! Now you need a country and if your not in one only your chests are safe. What will I do, make a house out of chests?

Also I would Like the old /realm leader. This is because I have 4 friends I play with and we would like to start a country and be the "Dictators"
