Also, when I'm doing something in another window, I basically always have MR up in the background if I'm logged in. I WILL see those bright green /messages, and if I don't get kicked, I can also scroll up to check chat for a bit. Not that that would ever be of any use or anything.

I can understand people avoiding the filter and such, but if players are complaining about griefing ect the current veteran's/regular players can simply point them to the forums to post the coordinates and any other information so a staff member can eventually check it. I mean its not that big of a deal, this is why we have block logs so we can see when and where a player griefs or loots.

And not to burst your bubble lets be honest the new players don't even know who the staff members are so that's kind of redundant to begin with. We understand you players might get frustrated because we are on and afk but as the other staff have commented we are players as well.

If you really want to help then as I said point them here. I'm also sure some staff would be willing to share Skype, if necessary.

Actually minerealms staff is some of the best. They are almost always on, and afking allows them to do other stuff and glance at their monitor every 30 min or so. If we auto kick them they will help even less, since that means they have to be playing on it. Then they can't go about their daily business. If staff is wanted more think of someone who many people would like as staff, and make a poll on it. Another thing to consider is it would give the average player an advantage over mods, by allowing players to AFK grind but not mods.

Well, McFatty isn't completely in the wrong here.

There is a problem with AFK staff, because:
1. People do break rules when they know staff are afk.
2. People break rules while staff are afk, and nothing gets done about it.

That is not to say that kicking them for AFKing is a good idea, but maybe there should contacting staff should be public knowledge.

A simple sticky thread with a list of staff, with voluntary contact information.

EG:

Name: Intelli
Position: Owner
Ways to contact: In-game, Forum, Skype
Skype name: blahblah

Name: VVolfie
Position: Some girl with a staff tag
Ways to contact: Throw snowballs at her

A sticky such as this could be quickly referenced with a link to in-game chat, and if staff does not want to be contacted, they don't have to give ways to contact, but if they don't, they should consider not being afk so often.

Ok well jokes aside, this is absurd. The fact that you think we have to sit on this game and snap to help someone 24/7 just annoys me personaly. There is skype to get me into the game as I have previously said, there is a forum for reporting problems on and this is a video game not real life. I know you guys get angry when you have been looted or griefed but the simple solution is to post onto the forums the co ord and a staff will deal with it.

When I get home I have the forums on my duel screen and minecraft on my main screen, I sit here in my own time and read though all the forums(the flame) and moderate that aswell. When doing that I also try to moderate the chat on minerealm.

Now this is going to come across wrongly to some of you, but I am here as a staff member TRYING my hardest to do my best, please everyone and help as much as I can. Some people need to sit back and relise how much time staff members put into this game to keep minerealm alive.

Nobody's expecting you to do that. All we want you to do is elevator at chat, ladder at chat, or perhaps handicap-accessible ramp at chat.

On a more serious note, I guess it would be nice to have at least one staff member available for a greater proportion of the time. However, the way to approach this would be to push for the selection of more mods--not to expect even greater commitments from the current staff members who already do so much for the server.

I feel that I am somewhat responsible for this post being here... so I will apologize for that. If I am afk for long periods of time, what that typically means is I passed out while waiting for cows to grow up, villagers to breed, mobs to spawn, etc etc. Waiting is boring, and when I'm tired, it means I fall asleep. The day that is mentioned in this thread is one such case... so sorry about that. Sometimes, I'll also go afk to just grab a glass of water, and then my mom gets home and we'll chat. Stuff happens.

I was actually thinking of a self-controlled self kick to help resolve my actual afkness.

I will say though that I am mistaken for being afk a lot of the time simply because I don't talk much... I am a quiet person, and tend to watch chat more than participate. Having said that, I built tools into my mod to help with that.

Regardless, I think this thread is a huge overreaction... it seems that sometimes it is forgotten that all staff are over 18 years old, and hence, have lives that consume much of our available time. We do not get paid for this. We do not get special privileges... and we are typically treated as if it is our duty to spend all of our free time waiting for people to need our help. We volunteered to be staff members because we like the community and wanted to help it when we could... but that does not mean that we must devote all of our free time to game moderation. I have responsibilities that must be done, and then I also like to enjoy life while I am at it.
