I started to think the same at first, but then I realized a couple things. Sombra intentionally wasn't given any backstory or character development for a couple of reasons:

1. They are planning on an episode to cover his lack of character.

2. He wasn't intended to be a character at all, rather, a plot device.

Or there is that 3rd option where the writers gave him a fleshed out character and background but cut it out due to time constraints.

Or they just f*cked up, it's anyone's guess really.

Yes, in one of the episodes in season 1 ( I forget the title, but it was a Cutie mark crusader episode) Twilight shows a deal of great power at her young age after seeing the rainboom.Princess Celestia sees this and takers her under her wing, she also gets here mark as well. Ill look for the episode title and try and post it soon. Gona catch up on season 3 episode 3.
