This only works if you look at either at the piston pushing the arrow or the type of piston pushing it (Looking at a sticky piston if a normal piston is powering it won't work)

That's really cool :O

The only issue I see (besides the video saying it won't work in SMP) is that it does use a clock, which are frowned upon/probably not allowed.
