I'm currently still against realms, as I wouldn't like to be forced to dirt spam just to get a bigger realm. Takes time out of doing fun things.

Apparently we're dead set on realms though. I still am against chestlocking, but I love the railroad idea. Also would be great is if we got a bigger map. The idea of shrinking makes me uber-sadface.

Y'know, you can expand realm just fine by building actual stuff rather than just spamming dirt. I got my realm to it's current size solely by my own effort without needing to spam dirt, and I still have quite a bit of unused space.

With this new protected rails system..
So anyone with a realm bigger than 100 x 100 can place protected rail in the wild...
What if someone.. destroyed the block under the rail...
Also, who would be able to destroy the rail?..

Aw, I was hoping that realms would be removed. Intelli, is there any possible chance that another server could be created without realms?

I agree with ditching the realms. They are lag hogs. As long as we have the anti grief system we should be okay. Realms also give people a false sense of protection sometimes. It also takes away the adventure part of the game. People ccan just join realms instead of exploring. I say we add a poll to this thread about ditching realms and see what the public says. If we just say here: No Realms!!

I'd like to point out another reason why a map wipe is necessary. It is because the map file is becoming corrupted. After Notch changed the map save system, all old maps had to be converted. Because of this, there is some corruption. Apparently, the corruption is getting worse, so the current map will have to be reset. There is no getting around this fact.

yes, up until recently world holes seemed rare, now a 32x32 world hole generated in my frigate, it almost ate the hole thing until I re-logged.
but what are the other effects of a corrupting map? does it cause lag? crashes? inaccurate fly-kicks? permanent areas of chunk destruction and regeneration? lighting glitches? realm conditions damage?

The main issue is the server crashes.

YES. good idea. The majority rules. Lets do this, and have the poll up for a week or so. See what other people think of it.

How about non-members of a realm can't access chests within that realm?

You already programmed a chest locking mod. If people are still too stupid to use it they deserve to be robbed.
If you are going to cave in to the idiots though, at least make it require a 250x250 realm before this takes effect.
