I like to build amazing things, but after I'm done, I want to move on. Not to rebuild it all the time. It's really demoralizing to come back to a stripped, ruined city. Your buildings can't look as nice if they get ruined all the time, due to the amount of time it takes to repair all the buildings.

Also, those of us with a few members don't have enough hands to repair a large amount of cities. We like to build big too, but we may only have 5 people as opposed to 20.

Anyway, I can see the points on not having realms. Having strict borders is kind of limiting; without realms, large, sprawling cities are much more possible to have with fewer people.

On Realms
Pros:
Security and protection for your stuff
Allow you to control aspects of your realm (buckets, explosions, fire, etc)
Realm warp

Cons:
Lag, lag, lag, lag.
Fragmentation of the server population
Made you lazy about traveling

There are some things that can be done to make getting rid of realms more palatable to the players. First, you have said there will be some anti-griefing plugin installed. This would be good if you can identify who did damage and then fix it. You would also need to be able to identify who stole stuff from a chest and restore it. Hiding chests is getting less effective as more people begin using xray mods.

Another thing that needs to be solved is whether or not fire and TNT will be available. These are incredibly useful right now, and I would hate to see them disabled. Right now you can use them in realms only, and without realms, I'm not sure how they would be used.

One probelm that will be partly solved is the fragmentation issues. Right now, we are very clannish, mostly working within our realms. Without them, we will be able to be members of multiple cities, which can help solve this very nicely.

While Realm Warps are convenient, there are things that could be done to make them not as necessary. For instance, if we can build a subway that stretches between cities, that will be amazing. The problem with this is that it could be easily griefed. If the anti-griefing system can include the subways, and allow damage to be reverted, that would be nice.

I have often seen people who don't know where anything is in relation to their homes. Some of them don't even know how to get to their homes from spawn. If we remove realm warp, then this problem will be largely fixed, and people will have to travel more, and will see more of the map.

On PVP
I think PVP is very important. It adds new dimensions to minecraft, and can be very entertaining. I would like to see PVP enabled in general. The biggest problem I see is that I like how inside realms, you can be safe from PVP. I think the ideal would be some way to designate PVP-free areas, but have everything outside of them allow PVP. I am strongly against allowing PVP only in a few arenas. I would rather universal PVP then that highly restricted of PVP.

I'm sure I will have more thoughts on this later. As is, I could see this potentially being a very good thing, or potentially being a bad thing.

I completely agree with panthers, and I hope I can add some thoughts without being too repetitive:
Realms: I loved the kurachi survival server because of towns. I could talk about all the great features of towns, but you already know that. One thing that I liked the most was the ability to walk to a different town whenever I was tired of one or residents weren't online or a different city had something going on (LBG :P). Not that my current realm isn't a nice town, but I get tired of it. Because of this I have moved to creative, where I can build in my town OR walk around and see other people's creations.

tl;dr My two favorite parts of playing on a SMP server are being able to build all over the place and see what other people have made. Realms discourage this.

pvp: As far as pvp goes, I don't really like it, but I don't care all that strongly. People have suggested all pvp with some no pvp places (realms or the like) or no pvp with pvp arenas (yep panthers). One solution I've thought of as a compromise is to have a certain part of the map designated pvp. For examples, this could mean everything x: -200 to the - border (North) would be pvp, or a corner: x < -200 AND z < -200 (NE).

Creative: For the creative update, please retain the core aspects of minecraft and what I said there about realms. Whatever you do, I'm looking forward to it, Intelli. btw, does it have anything to do with this?

I say keep realms but make it so that they after they are 100x100 they must have visitors enabled.

By 100x100 they should be able to hid their money and I think realms need to be more open.

I think that realms give you a sense that you belong to certain place and me personally, I like that. I think visitors should be mandatory to have on so you don't have to waste time walking 300 blocks around it. The realm expansion is one thing that keeps the game fun for me, its always fun trying to expand so you can move up the ranks.

For pvp, I think that only certain places can have pvp on, i'm not talking about a little 20x20 arena, i'm talking about maybe having giant 300x300 free for all arenas. Or maybe just having half of the map pvp and the other half without it.

Either way i'm excited about what ever Intelli will do.

yeah realms are legit. making realms, expanding, destroying other realms in wars, and to top it all off i ain't got to worry about my home being destroyed by a outsider.

You can do the same with a city, but you can do what you want with it and aren't forced to abide by:
-The cube boundaries
-The massive amounts of dirt it takes to expand (spend time doing something not fun in order to expand the realm? Na, I'd rather just build wider walls in Kurachi :))

There's also going to be a very powerful anti-griefing system implemented to almost totally eliminate your worries (I would assume)

It seems like a lot of people are using Kurachi as an argument against realms. You know what server Kurachi was on? The old, no health, classic one. You know what server there are no realms on? The new, no health, classic one!
YAY! How about we all be happy and play on classic! and then we can leave the extremely anti-griefers behind on survival! If you were so happy with Kurachi on a classic server then why not on another classic server?

Really, classic is not living up to its expectations of, well, classic. Classic is griefed all the time, and all the cool stuff that isnt underground is either half-gone or made out of obsidian(yes, I am talking about your tower on the border of the map Cerevox). If we take realms away, then survival will probably become like that. If you will actually put enough effort into this world of

Kurachi wasn't on the old classic server. It was on the last map, which was a survival server.
