I am tired of not knowing whose realms disband I think this would make it easier to find the disbanded realms, but not as easy as: A realm by ______ has disbanded at x---/z----. This would also help to see where your realms are, and where others are as well. I am not being selfish as it would benefit everyone. The idea I have in mind is have a 100x100 map and each square represents a realm, with coords listed, and owners name. Also, have public land in there as well to show entire map on little grid. Doesn't have to have any designs of the realm just a simple grid. Comment on what you think. Thanks!

I voted no. While a realm overlay would be nice, I actually would rather it not have the owner's IGN. Realm/City name might be okay to include. Even no information would still be handy so that you can see what realms are owned on the world map.

People are greedy with disbanded realms. They wanna zerg it for the resources that might be there, not to preserve it or use the land. I don't think we should be providing these people with the location of disbanded realms so that they can loot them. I believe that is the same reason that the coords are not given in the realm disband message.

You're not supposed to know where the disbanded realms are, thats the point.

Shaddow got most of the main reasons why I say no, but I'd also add that making the names of realm owners available opens the door for harassment. If two players were in a feud, one could come in and buy up realms near the other, and then staff would have to sort that out, which would get even more complicated with this feature. A decently smart player would be able to do the same with just the realm names.

Even with those changes, this still seems to me to be the kind of thing that would support the recent trend of shameless vulturing of abandoned realms in order to make profit, rather than preserve/improve/incorporate what's been built there.

For OP: Why would you say that you don't know whose realms have disbanded? That's the ONE piece of information that's being freely given. Also, the fact that you felt the need to defend yourself before the discussion even started gives me great pause, and makes me think that there's too much potential for abuse here, regardless of the general utility of the rest of the suggestion. (As a side note, we actually DID have a realm grid map for a while. I'm not sure why we got rid of it, but I would imagine it was either a matter of spending the processing power elsewhere, or the abuse potential that's already been mentioned.)

TL;DR: Realm map with owner or realm names is too easy to abuse and supports vultures, simple owned/unowned map might be ok.

I said no. By this, I suggest absolutely no change to the map whatsoever. Why? Mostly because of what Aelcalan said "the recent trend of shameless vulturing of abandoned realms in order to make profit, rather than preserve/improve/incorporate what's been built there."

As already stated, there are those who rapidly close in on land and should they get it, they clean it out of valuables then do absolutely nothing with it. I can name quite a few people who I believe have done this before, but I'll be a nice person here.

There are also some who swoop in on valuable realms, namely those close to spawn, and buy them for the usual 10k just to attempt to sell them at one heck of an expensive price without touching them one bit. Sure, it preserves the said realm, but to me personally it's downright shameless profiteering.

The only way MineRealm would benefit from this are from the few good souls who buy realms to preserve them (take Findale for example, preservation is going on there), or those who actually use the disbanded land they obtain. I fear in this day and age that those sort of people are few in number or disband-grabbing capabilities.

Also, we already know who's realms disband, knowing where the realms disband will only cause a massive land-grabbing campaign almost daily.

Sorry.

PS I am truly sorry for the Necro, didn't realize the date. D: I saw it on the first page and decided I'd give an opinion on it. -facepalm-

How about this instead.

We have a grid overlay of the entire map of a 100x100 squares.

Now each player gets assigned a different color, and so each realm of the players color is the same.
The public realms could be green.

You wouldn't directly know whose realms it was, unless you already know that person and the realms he/she has and where they are.

This way you can see how many realms other people have, where people are located and so on, without actually knowing who they are.

As others have said - The whole point is not to know where the disbanded realms are. I don't think players should access to information about who owns every realm and where they are. Of course, you can travel the map using /realm, but that's different. I disagree with an overall map of named realms and IGN's.

However, I would like to see a map overlay that shows owned and public realms. Say for instance you are playing a large project that requires an area of land that is say, 4x4realms. With the map overlay, you could find public land that is suitable nearly instantly.

So to sum up, I voted for no because I think a map of realms with listed IGN's shouldn't happen. I would however like to see an overlay of private and public realms only. No more information then that.

That's a very good point. It's usually the friends of the owner of the disbanded realms whom know where the realms are. If everyone knew where the realms are, this system would fall apart. The friends might have a hard time buying the realms back.

"Oh, my guild's realms are disbanding. I gotta go buy them back."

"Oh, someone's realms are disbanding. Imma go find and buy them."

They belong in the hands of the guild. If this were implemented, they wouldn't go into the hands of the guild.

I think its a good Idea. However, it shouldn't advertise disbaned realms. If you are on the chat and happen to see a realm become disbaned, everyone that saw it should have an equal chance to claim it. It also provides players with the ability to find a nice place to settle and check out to see if the area they want is free. Idk, something like this though would be more beneficial than detrimental to the server in my opinion.
