Here's one that went out to quite a few players:

Hey, I'm just sending this letter out to a few of the good players that seem to be left on Minerealm. Plane has started a server and it seems to be going quite well. It would be cool if you'd come check it out and possibly even stay.

And yes, that was sent out by a staff member of said server.

True, but If they included any personal information or discussions it could easily be edited out by Intelli. Anyways i just pictured them saying things like, "Come play on our server!". Though that's only based on Intelli's description. Not a big deal, i just wanted to see what the hubbub was about.

The issue is that they were advertising their server by PM'ing our server members via our forums, as well as via /msg in-game. The fact that it's a cheap rip-off clone of our server is only part of the problem.

If they were willing to find their own players, then I wouldn't care.

Anyways, if you want to be a part of that, that's your choice. But this is clearly an issue where you can only support one side - not both.

Perhaps it is the only way they have contact with their old friends. I personally have some friends left on this server, who I cannot communicate with besides Pm.

Saying that its a choice, and has to be one of the 2 servers is just a dick move. Why are you dictating other peoples decisions about what server THEY want to play on? I play on more than one server. Does that make me a terrible person? No. Just because a few of your players play on a server that isn't dictated by you, does that really warrant a ban from your server? Absolutely not.

You're killing your own player-base by the actions you are committing. If you feel you must have all the players, and they cannot have anything else, feel free to ban everyone. Soon, you will find yourself walking around an empty server that YOU caused by being greedy.

The lesson you need to learn from this experience: Mass banning people who played on another server will kill your server. Don't do it. People who play minecraft play to have fun. Perhaps it's fun for them to play on more than one server.

Intelli, you are doing a terrible thing to the great server you've created. Frankly, it's just wrong to ban players just because of the actions of the owner of another server they play on. We've already lost a lot of our community lately, with vets leaving in droves; and what do you decide to do? Ban many more of them for the actions of someone else! And you know what!? Now even more players are leaving, and many of the banned aren't even going to appeal.

On top of this, Plane has been respectful to you throughout this entire fiasco. He's been mature and tolerant of you trying to scare players away from his server. Hell, he hasn't even banned you from * because you haven't technically broken any of his server rules! And look at this! The forums even auto-censor * when I try to type it. I thought this was a decent server where the player's opinions counted, and we had free speech. I guess not.

I'm going to go on the record and say that I have not even heard of this server before last night; however, after seeing that there are some of the people who I respected and enjoyed the friendship of on this server playing on that server, I wish I had had the opportunity to play. I am not saying I would "defect" from MR. I have invested far too many hours into this server to just up and quit. I LOVE the people on this server, but this whole situation is leaving a rather sour taste in my mouth. I have a hard time understanding how a few people contacting a select group of players to come join in the fun of a similar server that has old friends on it is such a bad thing. The point of an online game is to promote community and fun. The drama that I'm reading about here is a million miles from either of those things. I enjoy my time on MR. I have played on here, almost exclusively, for nearly a year now. Of the other servers that my IRL friends have had me try, none have been as good as what we have here; however, this kind of mass banning derails a huge amount of my love for this game. I do not want to simply stop playing because I have lost faith in a community that I have given myself to. I also do not think that it is in any way fair to wholesale ban people for playing on another server. If you wish to IP ban the people who were advertising, THAT I can understand, but not the players who just went to have fun. Some of those players have been on MR quite a bit, barely showing any signs of being elsewhere. Too, from what Intelli showed us, there was no one saying "please choose us over them." That statement seems to be solely Intelli's. "Have fun, maybe stay" is a hallmark of anyone saying I hope you will consider our community as well. "AS WELL" being the key part. I moved from across America to live with my wife, does that mean I shouldn't be able to go back to the place I've always known as home? I think not. One can exist in more than one place, and it's not a server killer if a few players go between servers. No one was poached. As far as I could tell the people i saw listed online were people who are online quite a bit. It's sad to see that this whole thing has blown up like it has. I hope the community survives, but I doubt it will ever be the same.
