Should there be a completely new server/map for the start of MineRealm 5.0?

I wonder if another 10k right off is a good idea though?
It would be in my opinion. We need a good deal of fresh land to start new projects and to provide new people on the server with some unspoiled land to settle.

I like the idea of roanoke being a border city. We could even decide to turn it into a spawn again. that way new players would be able to find free land within a reasonable time.

What about multi-tiered maps on the server, by adding a hub world map we could have portals to other maps and map types and thereby extend the life of the server by having portals to 'new' worlds....

sometime in the future most every single player will want a new map. And at some point, the entire map will be built on.

Other players and I are simply saying the new map would work nicely with the 1.3 update, that is all.
Map has been out more than a year and there's still over 80% of land that is public. Just saying it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
Sure, over 80% of land is available to purchase, but how much of that is old realms? Or built on and not bought? Or mined through to some extent by existing neighbors? Or is ocean? Taking a look at the map, sure, there are some open areas... typically surrounded by swaths of private land and you can be sure they have mine shafts that expand beyond their 50x50. I've found some great virgin land, but more often, I am repeatedly disappointed by finding caves with torches or mineshafts criss-crossing the land. It's inconvenient and disappointing.
Well I don't think we have an exact estimate of what is untouched or just old land, but I tend to walk the map all the time cause I'm bored and have seen tons of open untouched land that is imo beautiful, as far as the ocean goes that's gonna happen even with a new map it's inevitable. Even if there is builds on it that were used/old/abandoned all you have to do is ask staff about it, Ive seen spots were all you need to do is rip down one old/abandon building and the rest of the landscape is nice. Also just because there's torches in caves and such that doesn't mean anything, some people just run through them and not dig into the walls you'd be surprised about how much ore people actually miss, I know cause I sometimes just take a quick run if I find one.

Also, if you want clean untouched land with no other building/player in sight, you may be better suited for single player.

:lol: It's funny because it's true.

Obviously, there are more issues than that. And you would not be so clueless as to not recognize the benefit of fresh, unaltered land in which to build, mine, and grow. If that was the case, let's exaggerate the opposite direction and just spawn a metropolis across the whole map. Pardon me for being blunt and snarky; I'm on my phone at work and don't have much time to elaborate.

If the map borders are to be extended, I think the best way to extend the map would be to extened each of the four borders by 2500 blocks, this would result in over double the current surface area of the map.

Current Map;
10,000m x 10,000m = 100,000,000m2
After Extension;
15,000m x 15,000m = 225,000,000m2

Alternatively, expand each side by only 1000 blocks. This would still be a fairly large amount of additional space (44% more surface area, or 20 realms in a straight line out from any point of the current border); by using a more modest expansion, we would leave open the possibility of another expansion (to the 15000x15000 that you suggest) at some point in the future when even more features have been added to MC.

EDIT:
If we do expand the map, it would be a good idea to re-implement the different spawn cities. IIRC there were several large cities somewhat near the map border, so they could make good use of the expansion, while also reducing the load of new players on the current spawn city.
