Anyone else been looking at 1.3?

Pretty much with enchanting, it's going to be easy mode now. Level 30 will get you level 50 enchants and it won't take any longer to get to it. Although you will get lvl 50 enchantments from it, I've tested it and it still seems to give a decent amount of lower level enchants as well.

Won't matter though because if Jeb keeps it how it is in the snapshot, mining coal (or lapis/diamond/redstone) will get you to level 30 far faster then grinding will. Also interesting is smelting now gives EXP, so there's even more. Enchanted items will become incredibly easy to get and efficiency IV iron picks won't be uncommon.

Very interesting. Thoughts?

Edit: Upon looking farther into it I've noticed you receive the same amount of EXP from sand or cobble smelting as you do from ore. Incredibly easy EXP right there. Oh and this next update makes me want to send a cake to Mojang - You can now shift click bottles into brewing stands, along with armor! Yes!

It will definitely be easier, I always found that getting high level enchantments ridiculous to get. Even with grinders it quickly becomes tedious and boring. And there is always high demand for enchants, this will just expand the economy at most.

Sweet, we won't need to have a room filled with bookshelves to get the most efficient items now.

I personally can't wait for writable books. It will actually provide a use for libraries around the place.

Also tripwire will be a very interesting edition. 1.3 + wilderness pvp could be very fun indeed.

Can't wait for both of them :D

Awesome job Mojang, and keep it up

As for easier enchanting, I like that and hate it. It removes a chunk of the value of enchanting, but makes things slightly more balanced economy wise.

As for mining/smelting providing experience? I have issues with this. Mining diamonds, lapis, and gold? Sure. They're rare enough (and in the case of lapis) useless enough, that a MINOR experience bonus seems fair enough. Coal? Eh... it's something that you're going to be getting alot of it anyways. If it has any experience value at all, it should be extremely small. Iron? No. It's common, will be hunted in large amounts anyways, and exceptionally usefull. Cobble? HELL NO. Unless (from a multiplayer point of veiw) you want players like me gaining a MASSIVE advantage from our giant, underground hollowed cave systems. It breaks mining completely.

Smelting? I can see smelting gold or cooking lapis as needing a small bonus, as its inherently almost useless as is. Cobble? I'm torn a bit. On one hand, cobble buildings vanish as the value of smoothstone in terms of experience goes up. On the other hand, cobble is already cooked by the chestfull as it is. It would make gaining experience so easy that enchants would be rolling out in wheelbarrows.

Sand? I can see a minor bonus. Very minor. Like... find a way to make it maybe 5 credits per stack.

Shift clicking bottles for potions? Neat. I like that idea quite a bit actually, and have no criticism or additions to throw in.

All in all, I like what 1.3 is brining to the table, I just want it to bring a little less.

If this is indeed how the new experience system will be, then we'll have all the unbreaking and effiency tools we'll ever need

With such amounts of awesome tools at your disposal, digging, mining and terraforming in general will become a breeze. I think I can start designing an even larger cathedral for 5.0 :)

My opinion. The economy will almost crash from people selling off what would have been valued enchants at now lowered prices. It would take a ultimate enchant to make some money after this. But it's a cool idea don't get me wrong.

Enchants will be worth less, so it means that those who make money off of selling enchants at the moment cannot do so anymore, however if they're still happy to grind, I see no reason why they can't just enchant more items, and by selling these more items for less cost then they might manage to earn a similar amount to what they did before.

That's the only major change I see, no massive crash in the economy or anything like that.

Exactly. More enchantments. Lower price per enchantment. Still same amount of money earned per hour.

It might actually be worth enchanting iron tools at high levels. And given the lowered amount of time it takes to reach a particular level, enchanting diamond tools, armor, and weapons might not keep up with one's supply of diamonds.
