And tbh, it's still not enough for me to renew my live service which I let expire last month.
I wouldn't say they are entirely stupid ideas, there were several major features that were definitely next gen/ should be used. But people whine enough they get their way. I still think they shouldn't of just completely 180'd but it seems they got lazy and instead of coming up with compromises they decided it was easiest just to wipe it back to 360. So essentially imo the Xbox One is now the Xbox 360¹.

As far as the free games, those were announced prior to all the features being fully announced so it has nothing to do with trying to pull people back.
When I say stupid ideas I'm referring to the whole blocking rental/pre-owned system, must have internet or it's a housebrick, must pay for gold sub or it's a housebrick scenario.
As for the free games being announced, well if it was prior that's a good thing. I lost interest in the 360 a while back and haven't bothered to keep myself up to date on it.

The whole needing internet or you can't use it was because of the whole digital drm thing. I do agree 24 hours was a bit extreme but the main reason it was required was to completely cut off piracy on the console. It's nothing new alot more pc games are requiring always online so it is technically next gen.

You want rentals? Then you would of simply added one of your friends or whatever to the 10 family thing and used their library to play that game. Of course it would only be viable for single player games mostly but the system would have worked. As far as used games we have no clue what they had planned all they mentioned was that you were going to be able to resell the discs back at retailers, and the other thing was we would be able to sell our actual game/drm ect to another person, it had a number of uses but we didn't get any further because everyone complained.

As far as using a silver account, the only aspects of the games that would be disabled is multiplayer, you'd still be able to play your games if that policy was still there you would just need to check in to verify you own the game.

What people think is stupid, is actually the new DRM that will eventually be pushed down all our throats whether we are ready for it or not. In Microsoft's word "Get used to it." It's to stop piracy which as we all know is hurting the industry so if anything people should be happy about it, but they definitely need to make some sort of changes if they are going to use that type of system.

If anything the drastic 180 is going to hurt them in many ways seeing as cloud was going to be a big part of the system. Game companies will probably less focus on using the cloud since we will be required to use the discs(though we can buy digital.)Which means you can't access your library from any xbox one like you were supposed to which is another hot topic.

See, this is why I should keep myself in the loop with regards to Microsoft info hehe.

As far as I was aware they abolished the silver account and you basically had to subscribe to play the thing.
And you couldn't sell back your games as they were locked to the console they were first used on. Not good if you have more than one console in the house and your kids want to play a game in another room.

Thanks for the info rokkr

No they had a sharing system that allowed up to 10 "Family Members" but Im pretty sure you can put anyone on the list and remove them at will. So anyone on the list can access your library of games, same goes if you are on their list. You just can't play the same game at the same time. With this feature it also allowed you to access the game library through the cloud on any xbox one. Your disc was basically a digital purchase, once its on your box it was yours much like pc. However like I said they were going to allow resale of the discs back to retailers and also allow several resale of the game itself, some people said 2 times other 10, so who knows we never got to find out.

In essence the games resale x amount of times is the same as some keys you buy for games on pc or programs they have so many uses before they run out. But that last use wouldn't really be a issue. What ticks off more people now that they reverted is the fact that, yes it was going to be all cloud and you didn't need the disc in the drive, cloud gaming aka digital games much like steam would have aloud so much more. We would basically eventually get price drops because they would be digital so cheaper games and Im sure eventually get special sales ect like steam as well. But now it's all thrown out because people don't do their homework and complain about it.

I plan on using the voice controls quite heavily and the passive recognition of heart rate/facial expression/player engagement has great possibilities for scalable difficulty (think the director from L4D)

Notice that I said meh.

and more importantly

This is a list of changes, used specifically and exclusively to show the changes between the next gen console and it's predecessor.

Or, as displayed in the tech demo - Play a single player game while you spend 8 minutes waiting for a multiplayer match in CoD (or Halo or whatever your poison is)

its a 6x drive while the XB one hasn't been confirmed yet. but to be fair even if its a 1x that spec is only relevant to installing the game from disk anyway
Ratta237 wrote: -New UI
Xbox doesn't need a new generation of Hardware to update the UI, they do it with a software update when they want to improve it.
Ratta237 wrote: -Dualshock 4 controller
I included this in new hardware, as with the Xbox. But for comparison - xb1 controller + smartglass

Nice, this is how they're delivering the backwards compatibility isn't it?

Now that they've gone back to 360 its almost definite, but even the pre 180 setup I'm fairly sure was going to give you the same 2 licenses (1 for first console, one for GT)

I use it all the time, you buy the game on your GT on your wife's (or son's/friend's/whatever's) console, then it ties one to their console and one to your GT, which you can both play simultaneously. That's how we play minecraft on Xbox, 'tis great. :)
