Notice how the "skylight" is on one side of the door (but not above the door).

Here is some pictures of how I "activated" my doors in my village for breeding. Remember you need at least one "active" door (and 16 or so villagers) in order for an Iron golem to spawn. The breeding rule is 35% of "active" doors. The rules, as per the wiki, for what I call an active door are:
-Must be a door
-Must have sky exposed to a block adjacent to the door (on one side at least)
-the "exposure" must be within 5 adjacent blocks of the door
-The "exposure" must not be equal on either side of the door (must have an opaque roof)
"Sky" is considered no opaque blocks between the top of the block and the sky. Light levels DO NOT MATTER, only sky counts. If you want to cover your village then I suggest you use glass on the sky side (but make sure it is above the door).
I hope this info helps and happy breeding....
