This one isn't a joke, I'm afraid.
I'm sure I could imagine a few reasons for why the edit function has been removed, but I would like it to return. This is because some posts have areas which would be forever changing (i.e. materials stored by a company or whether job vacancies are open), as well as the old convention of editting ban appeals rather than cluttering up the forums with countless threads. So make things easier, I will lump up the pro's and cons.
Pros:
Thank you for reading,
Jon.

Pros:
- Not as much of a thread/forum is cluttered up with posts / new threads
- Make updates from businesses / other things easier to access through the original post, instead of skimming through countless pages.
- Avoids repeated re-creating ban appeals, which proves quite annoying.
- With Edit, one can erase evidence of rulebreaking from forums. This can be a major pain.
- Not everyone notices an edit.
Thank you for reading,
Jon.
