From what I hear they can only be obtained from dungeons, and reproduce slowly/inefficiently. This is a problem for me, as i require approximately 144 melon plants. Help me acquire these copious amounts of plants and I will reward you. Once you get a plant you can hit it with a hoe to get 1 or 2 seeds back, so the amount of available melon seeds will spike after some time and they will lose alot of value, but i need alot of melon seeds FAST, so be sure PM me very early in 1.8 with offers on seeds (PM in game or on forum, im on both very often).

To create more melons:

- Plant seeds
- Melon grows to block adjacent to planted seed
- Harvest melons (you get 8 slices or so)
- Put slices in workbench and convert to more seeds (8)
- Repeat

You'll have infinite melons within a day based on the growing rate on the dev server.

Thanks for the info, this will certainly speed up the process of filling my farm. So, I will now only require a single seed, if the dungeons i found in 1.7 in public land are still there then i should be able to get the first seeds from them in minutes.

Chances are the dungeons you found will be gone in 1.8 but you never know. I found the melon seeds failry quickly on the dev server though.

yea i hear they are more common / easier to find due to abandoned mine-shafts.
