Its a sad day for us Minecrafters :( . There are really good news and bad. The good news is that since Microsoft now owns Minecraft we could see something get done with Bukkit and all this legal issues with it, but the bad news is well we are now a Microsoft game (unless I miss read the entire post on Mojang.com).

I heard from IGN that IF Microsoft does a Minecraft 2, they said it would most likely be xbox or Windows only to get more kids to like Windows and xbox. This was just a speculation though.

Worst case scenario: Microsoft tries to change it to make it more marketable and interferes significantly, ruining it. But that's not particularly likely, or so I hope: they know how it got successful, and they probably won't want to interfere with that.

Best case scenario, IMO, Minecraft gets more resources, MS leaves Jeb in charge, and, if they do make spinoff comics or movies or whatever like some people are speculating,

1. They keep the original creative team in charge, or at least a large part of the process, and
2. If they do make Minecraft 2.0, they wait until Jeb is ready for an enormous update or something.

This could go either way, and the non-indie-ness of it is sad (we're definitely losing something), but I'm hopeful. This could be good.

And Notch leaving...*bawls*. Hopefully he'll stay involved with the community even if he isn't on the team anymore, but I don't blame him. The poor guy didn't sign up for this, he's just an indie game developer who happens to be really good at what he does.

Anyway, this is very bittersweet, and I'm both sad and happy for everyone involved.

I wish I could be so optimistic but for me, this really only spells the long slow painful death of minecraft. We've already sort of peaked and Notch is aware of that. I cant really blame him for taking the money. It's a lot more than the title is worth. Notch can just fade away now like he always said he wanted to in his twitter posts. The community has given him a lot of heat for EULA stuff and I cant say I blame him for not putting community first. But speaking of community, that IS what made minecraft what it is. Especially on PC with the modding community and map making texture packs all of that. I think though that Microsofts reason for the acquisition is to milk the dedicated MC community for all their worth. Monetizing texturepacks/mods/skins are probably in our foreseeable future. Major updates like 1.8 probably will come with a price tag, or they will just make a "sequel" That we'll all have to pay full price for.

I also feel sorry for any body on youtube who relies upon that as their livelihood its all hanging delicately as it is and anything microsoft does to tamper with it will completely screw them over. I just hope everything turns out alright for them. There is already a good amount of modders who've quit and added to that number are the people who've quit because mircosofts at the helm now. I just can't say I'm too excited.

What I can say is that hopefully we will at the very least get new types of gameplay experiences and a richer array of features to enjoy with updates that will work on release for all servers, and maybe we can learn to accept this fate with less bitterness.
