Phantom, Im not sure if you know what the wilderness is. Wilderness leather is different to the normal leather you will probably think of. The wilderness is an area in minerealm different to the rest.

What Intelli posted should be helpful, but in case you want some further information:
The wilderness is an area beyond the northern border of the map which can be accessed by anyone, but items cannot be taken inside. So, in a way, entering the wilderness is like starting from scratch in legit survival (like in sp, with no tp) but you take twice as much damage. There's regen, btw, and looting is also allowed in the wild. It's kinda like an overworld nether. Most people just go there to collect resources because there's an abundance of them there in comparison to much of the public/private land because the wilderness is relatively new and the land hasn't yet be scoured for resources. Hope that helps :P
