Why I would like to see both of these changes:

I think the Nether should be dangerous. I would like to have more challenging Wither battles on Minerealm.

The active player community is overall cooperative and friendly these days, but PVP still has a tendency to cause hard feelings. I'd like us all to have the option to opt in or out of pvp even in the Nether.

By combining these 2 changes, we keep and in fact increase the survival aspect of the Nether with less potential for conflict between players. Cooperation may even increase (its pretty fun to fight a Wither on normal setting with other players).

Jen I can kinda see where you are coming from with this, so before lighting shooting it down let me think it out on paper here first.

Pvp on minerealm 9/10 times these days either consists of camping at nether spawn and hitting every single unexpecting nub that walks in with your overpowered gear, or simply spamming your mouse to compete with others. And although this really isn't what PVP is about, making PVP optional will simply resolve all of the petty ban requests that occasionally pop up on the forums.

Other than this, there is no reason to disable PVP in the nether. I don't know about everyone else but I personally get paranoid as hell when I enter through the spawn portal. This is what makes it fun! I loved the Quartz rush of 1.5 because everyone was active and it was basically the MineRealm hunger games in the gettoh.

So at this point, Im going to shoot your idea about PVP optional nether down. But in terms of adding more difficulty into it, I vote yes. Having a more challenging nether sounds fun. Hell I wish intelli would have like 'diamond day' in the nether where he would put a pyramid of diamond blocks at nether spawn nether and tell everyone to go to work haha.

There's also a fair number of 'hardcore' PVP-ers who I probably are megalomaniacs. I'd like us all to have the option to opt in or out of pvp even in the Nether. See my response to number 2 as to why not.

As it is now, I will have to vote no for this suggestion. I like aspect one, but aspect two is a bit questionable.

I agree with jen idea. This is creating a lot of bad blood between players. We can already /pvp before we enter the nether and see the name of who killed us. To me if you want to keep a community happy without creating drama and hatred from one another i think it should be optional. Otherwise if drama keeps building up among players people will tend to just leave the server and find another. Why not hold on to the great community we already have and make it better.

I HAVE to agree with Jen and Ssj. I've witnessed players WANTING to leave the server because of the behavior of some players in the nether. Pvp is cool and all but for those who want to pvp. For those who don't, it's just lame.

PS: Invisible potions? Really? Oh yeah, that is such a bad-ass pvp move *rolls eyes*

I'm with cold and Eetrab on this one. Having a higher nether difficulty would be nice, but making pvp optional would ruin the fun of going into the nether. It would be like a choc chip cookie with no choc chips. Anyway, if you really need to go through the spawn portal, there are plenty of portals around spawn that lead you just outside the main area, so you can just use those to avoid players

While I do agree with Jen at certain parts, we do also have to look at that the fact that Nether PVP is a tradition. Therefore, this will make it hard to change the opinions of any veteran players, such as myself. I feel that mandatory PVP in the Nether is a tradition that keeps Minerealm somewhat alive (PVP-wise).

I do also see the other side, however. I know many complain about being killed and dropping their hard (or not) earned items. Maybe a solution would be a better warning system that PVP is mandatory. As for the difficulty change, I don't see much complaining about that.

And by the way, thank you for all the feedback everyone. I knew this would be a hot topic, and I'm glad its being kept civilized, I don't want more hard feelings over pvp.

Recently a player has been admittedly bored and using invisibility to stalk an area where people hunt for wither skeletons. Hunting skeles is already a time consuming, expensive, and somewhat dangerous pursuit. I fully understand that I might die and lose it all while hunting (I have done so in my many hours of hunting). It's one thing to see an enemy be it mob or player coming and choose fight or flight, its quite another to be assaulted by an invisible enemy.

My thoughts were that making the Nether harder might be cause for less boredom, and making /pvp optional would allow for people who want the thrill of that aspect of game play without diminishing the enjoyment of the game for others for whom that is just not fun.
