Death FTW.

This is a SURVIVAL server. Death is common when trying to survive. Not eating for Minecraft days is dangerous, and should result in death.

How long does it take for the food meter to diminish to zero? How much does food refill to it? How does it work?

Sorry, I'm attempting to wait for the official release.
