TeaJay, did you ever place a sign near spawn at all or have you never touched/built anything at spawn?

Rephrased Edit: Did you ever place a sign at spawn that could be construed as possibly offensive or could possible be misinterpreted. Any signs at all at spawn or have you in fact never placed any sign at spawn making this impossible?

I don't think he deserves to be unbanned. He intentional put the sign down,no one was making him so its his own problem he was banned. He shouldn't have placed the sign if he liked the server so much.I have never heard of this person before anyways.I think if they has been on for a month I would have at least heard their name before.

Ok, I will wait to hear from someone.

I've sent a PM to Intelli regarding this matter as well as the current state of the Survival server.

I am an information systems manager at a non-profit government contractor and I am very familiar with server maintenance and hardware scalability. I also enjoy minecraft and what the minerealm community has done with their current community base.

I was frustrated with the current high latency issues of the Survival server and inappropriately spoke my mind on that sign.

I feel that a permaban is a little overboard for this issue. I was not griefing or causing any harmful destruction to any persons' property. As mentioned, I will wait for a response from another higher ranking administrator regarding this issue.

Admitting guilt, and i could of gotten him unbanned with the right answer to my question too

Rules are rules, bans are bans. Everyone is frustrated with the lag, but you don't see us going around breaking the rules.

Intelli is aware of the lag issues and has been working on it, but is severely hampered by the fact that he has to work with notch's less than optimum net code.

Real life is irrelevant to in game status. For example, IRL i am a 12-year old princess, but you don't see the masses bowing down to worship me as they would should they encounter me IRL.

Beyond that you lied in your original ban appeal which always looks bad.

Honestly, so many people get caught by placing signs its amazing. They never seem to realize that mods can tell instantly who placed a sign.

Regardless, i am done here.

You seem like a fairly sensible person, very consistent with proper grammar as well and considering all of your reactions to this it baffles me why someone working for a non-profit government agency and fully understands how a server works, and how issues with latency can arise would place an extremely vulgar sign lashing out agaisnt the server's latency issues. Surely you can understand why the server lags with all the plugins it uses. The lag can be frustrating, and I understand how you can be angered by the amount of lag currently going on ingame, but this does not give you the right to break server rules and post vulgar slander agaisnt the server. A ban is a ban, while I believe this doesn't deserve a permanent ban, I do believe that you ought to know better.

Is it possible to make this ban a specific time frame such as 24 hours or 48 hours? I agree that rules are rules and if I deserve a ban, so be it. I just don't think it deserves a permanent ban. Is this an option?

Thanks.

All bans are permanent excepting successful appeals , the logic being if we didn't want you on the server yesterday, we don't want you on the server today. However, due to the severity of what you did(almost none) and your well reasoned attempts to appeal I would recommend mercy from the mods. But I don't have any ground to argue it, so it really is up to the mercy of the mods.

We're past whether he did it - he placed the offensive sign which according the server rules, warrants a ban. The issue is now whether a permanent ban from the server for placing a sign is justified.

I agree with the initial response to ban someone for placing vulgar/childish signs in Spawn City. Admins can destroy the sign and move along - but that doesn't mean the person won't keep it up. At that point, Teajay is now forced to start this thread and plead his case. A griefer or young kid (actually anyone of any age) typically wouldn't think it's worth his time to try to get unbanned.

From this thread, I take away two things:
- He is above the intelligence level of the average minecraft user (in my experience)
- And he cares about this server enough to take time out of his weekend to appeal the ban

Agreeing with Kyle above -- I approve of Teajay getting banned in the first place, but should he have to jump through so many hoops to get unbanned?

I do admit he shows intelligence, despite his lapse in judgement... Still, the rules need to be followed. I honestly am wondering if he read the rules thread, at this point in time...

I'd suggest in this case, where it violates the rules but is relatively minor (in comparison to stealing a stack of diamonds, or pouring lava all over a house... whatever) there should be a warning and 24 hour ban. If someone is dumb enough to do it again, they should be banned forever. Seems more reasonable to keep the one-time offenders around.

Aside from that, how is it that mods see that he placed a sign that he originally didn't admit to, but they can't see who steals someone's items? Isn't everything logged?
