what next, stop mobs from dropping things all together to stop farming?
auto-farming is a big part of Minecraft. Why would you want to take this away? This makes iron a renewable resource, which would really help out. Anyway, why do you care how other people play the game? If you don't like the iron farming, just keep on mining.

Those of us who did the work to find and protect testificates this long, and buy the realms, deserve the legit benefits. In 1.2 they can be bred to make more by adding houses! it would take quite a bit of work for the iron farm, and well its worth it. This "problem" was well aware to jeb, but he decided not to remove it. If minerealm wants to continue to call itself "vanilla", it should not manipulate the game.

Here are my proofs:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/105 ... n-farming/

Jeb was aware of the problem, and didn't do anything about it. Iron farms are still entirely possible!

What exactly is wrong with mob farming so long as the drop rates are controlled to ensure nobody gains an unfair advantage over others? Why not have it as an option? This is a sandbox game after all, and we can farm wheat and melons - why not mob drops in the same way?

It's not like mob drops are rare either, or give a huge advantage. Farming spider string - well, that would allow a player to make lots of bows or fishing rods, not exactly a big boon over everyone else who doesn't farm them. Rotten Meat...no, not really. The only item that may be an advantage (aside from iron golems) is arrows from skeletons, and once you get a decent chicken ranch and gravel farm those become very plentiful too, so that's no real advantage there.

And it's not like there's a shortage of dungeons too, so anyone can take up farming mobs if they choose. One person cannot monopolise all dungeons on a map to get the advantage that way.
If Jeb put it in to the game, it's ment to stay.

In addition to the last post, I'd like to add that in the "1.2 preview" patch notes, their spawn rates were significantly nerfed.

I believe this should stay as-is. Should we ban mob-farms/grinders as well? No. However, something to be noted:

To the best of my knowledge, this is the only farm in Minecraft capable of fully automatically producing an item other than mob grinders and cactus.
  • It's a rare piece of land that can produce a lot of a useful item. Selling a lot of a useful item will provide lots of RCs.
  • Mob spawners are rare pieces of land that can produce a lot of a useful item. Selling a lot of this useful item will provide lots of RCs.
^^^
See not much difference in this and spawners.
There is a difference I'm pointing out though: mob farms require player's time while these iron farms are fully self operating. Which results in what people call "infinite". Yep it's an unfair advantage but not an exploit or hack so it will stay.

Already NPC villages value has skyrocketed because of this announcement.

There aren't many NPC villages left in tact, across the map.

But i guess the people that own NPC villages are just lucky.

Has any body thought that about the fact that you won't be able to get all the testificets in the same house 1 so they despawn and 2 close enough so goloms spawn.
So farms can't work on this server any way.

I don't see the problem.

1) Tools? A handful of people will have lots of iron tools. Everyone else will still be using diamond picks.

2) Pvp? A hanful of people will have all the iron swords and armor they want. Any serious pvp'er will still be wearing diamond armor while their diamond swords turn the iron armor into confette. Everyone else will continue to use the same armor they've been wearing for the last month.

3) Buckets? I have 3 double chests. I'll loan you some.

4) Minecarts? Seriously? Ok, about 2 dozen people make regular use of the subway, and everyone should know enough to keep using the same minecart.

5) Market price? I've been playing on this server for 9 months now. I think I've seen 8 iron sales. An increase in the iron supply (and the corresponding price drop) may actually create a market for iron. At the moment, there is no such market.

Don't like my reasoning? Well too bad. These guys went to a good amount of effort to keep their villages alive. It's about time they actually got something for their trouble. I didn''t hear anyone complaining about the payoff from building Nox Wool, the massive price reduction of eggs from chicken farms, the netherwort mega-farms and their potion sales, or the slime farmers making tens of thousands of creds a day. Hard work and patience = profit. Figure out what the next profit maker will be, then go get a job. Bums.

Actually, only experience grinders require player-interaction. Serious mob grinders are fully automated loot machines that allow a player to fill his inventory with any given set of loot in an hour or so.

In any case, standard spawner/grinders, full-sized mob grinder farms, and new golem grinders all require you to collect the loot before it despawns.
Prodigy9 wrote:The difference is that while mob farms from spawners can be obtained by many players (due to the large number of spawners), iron farms can be obtained by only the few players to control an NPC village.
Didn't the released information state that testificates will use player-created building if they are available? Considering that they also breed, it's entirely possible that we will be able to buy and sell testificates, lure them to a prepared village area, and make our own iron farms. Translation - Jonboy be buying some slaves for his mines next week. He just gotta build the plantation first.

geting 15 villagers in one house is very hard, but if one should be able to do that, it shouldn't be allowed.
but isn't villages rare? only rich and respected players may get a hold on one, and im sure they won't do an exploit to get some iron, it isn't that valuble.
