I totally support this idea - have seen it working on other servers.

what if when you place a chest in your realm then it could have a bunnon when opening the chest, this would simply lock the chest from anybody other than the owner and placer, with a password you can forget it and if you could simply reset your own then there is no need as password can be found out.

a meer icon when opening a chest to lock it from other people should work better.

You have the option of making the chest password or not? Then you could just make it not passworded for building. I personally love this idea, would work great for inns!

Have three levels of realm membership.

Level 1: Can place/remove blocks.
Level 2: Can place/remove blocks, enter chests.
Level 3: Similar rights to the realm owner- add members, etc.

Or, just have certain chests locked so only you can enter them. I like the level system better though.

I like the idea, but I just have my own home realm I don't add anyone to so they won't take my stuff.

Something else to think about:

This would open up the opportunity for realm owners to sell build rights to new players for chest protection. This means new players will no longer need to build up 10k to buy a realm. However, a periodical payment by the customer would mean it may be cheaper to buy their own realm in the long run. There will also be less newbies building far from spawn avoiding thieves. Once they have enough credits, they could buy whichever realm they choose, not the one they originally settled on, far from spawn.

I would love for the following commands to be implemented/changed:

/realm member <user> A
/realm member <user> B

The difference? User B's are exactly what realm members are now minus chest access, and user A's have access to chests.

This is basically what Bone and Agentred said, but hopefully in a simpler form.

Reason: I'm pretty sure somebody took some of my stuff on my realm, but since I don't have proof and I don't cover the tops of my 300+ chests with dirt, I can't do anything about it. Only a realm owner can do this, this solving the problem that eah2119 said right above.
