If you look at it in its most basic form, the realms system is really just an interesting, and efficient, protection system.

Some players, not including myself, may be bored of the system, and long for a new challenge.

With this permanent map, an additional system would be an enjoyable challenge for myself.

But having something like countries envolves everyone regardless of if they want to be part of it or not.

When we have countries for that little while, my realms were "taken over" and it bugged me. I know many other people had a problem with this too.

I guess the server will always be divided over this. I for one will never get on board this particular train.

The main problem with the old system was the lack of diplomacy.
It was too much like risk and not enough like Diplomacy or Civilsation.

It was the ability to acquire other people's plots without their permission and more negative unfriendly power play behaviour that it encouraged, gave a the first attempt at a country system a bad feel.
Whilst being 'owned' by a another faction, never allowed them to actually interfer with you realms, the feeling or threat of being taken other by others was an unwelcome one. Indeed it did lead to some incidents of power play and bullying tactics from those who wanted to expand and those who wanted to be left alone at peace.

I'm not adverse to some for of country system and it would still be interesting to see if and how it is incorporated into minerealm in the future.

Trouble is I think some heavy coding might be required to properly do a country system, potentially making some sort of graphic user interface to make the system manageable.
My experience from playing all the civilisation games, hearts of iron games and other strategy games is that user interfaces are quite important for running and managing empires.

If we could have a system which relied more on physical combat, capturing the flag and so forth perhaps that might be better than the system of using credits to attack and defend. Although perhaps spending credits of set amounts to 'fortify a realm to make it requiring more enemy players present in the plot to control it might help?
I think having to declare war on other factions first formally, which has to be consented to by the other party might help balance the game for those who wish to participate and those who just want to go it alone.

What would be nice, is a possible way of representing the different countries/factions graphically with details on who are the leaders, their team colours, flag, anthem, a short description about the country, number of territories and citizens, wealth, etc. could be represented in a visual form when making contact with other nations. In the same way as a map allows for navigating around the world, countries would need some way of visually keeping track with whom they are at war/peace with and whether they are allied with particular nations/countries/states/factions, etc.

There is no other way to say this:

The country system is terrible.

It's totally broken. Think about it like this: China, we all know it has tons of resources and money, and if we were to go and fight them, we'd all die. Now think of China as, say, NTC. Everyone else is the other IRL countries. If a faction has the money, everyone will be their 'effing slaves.

Loved the country system, spent 3 days walking around, claiming land, and taxed about 30k in those few days.

Love how it encourages people to join a faction, but even if they don't want to participate, it barelly effects them except for abit of an extra tax, and sometimes even less tax.

Hope to see it back.

...Or the "Investing/Stock" system intelli was talking about replacing country's with a while back. :mrgreen:

Some people like me do not like being in factions. It effects us more because it's slapping whatever name the country is under onto everything we own, essentially forcing us to be apart of that faction. And if we don't associate ourselves with the faction everyone else will because they will see we have their name on our realms.

Don't see how having a factions name on your realms make such a big difference. If you don't want that factions name on your realm all you'd need to do is spend 50k to start your own country, which isn't all that much, or gather like 5 people and start a neutral country, would only cost 10k split each.

Regardless, really looking forward to the new system, too bad i just spent 200k on materials for the Exodus arena, this new system'lll make me broke. :(

Not everyone on the server is rich. The most I've ever had on me at once is 44k which I have right now, I'm not going to waste 50k just so I don't have to put up with someone else. The country system was horribly broken, a waste of time and resources, and simply just a terrible idea from the start. It's the feeling of someone else pretty much owning everything you own by having their name over it. I absolutely HATE factions because they always fight over stupid stuff, get to into it, and have a superiority complex that could have rivaled Hitlers. Being under their flag is basically what it would be. How would you feel if what ever country (IRL) you lived in was suddenly taken over by a neighboring country, they imposed taxes on you, slapped their name on everything, and you could do nothing to stop it? That's what it's like.

Well, i respect your point, but eventually with diplomacy and stuff, i feel that the country system could've 'been really good and unique, and comparing factions to hitler is abit too far lol. Not all factions are ran over drama, stupidity, and fighting. Some are there to try to better the server, and build stuff that would be impossible alone, and to help new players by giving them a safe, and cheap place to live.
