This is an incredibly important issue. I'm flabbergasted that you all are laughing. I totally agree with you river, an auto-ban for names such as "retard" or "idiot" or calling someone "stupid" is extremely necessary, in fact I'm considering making a suggestion topic tomorrow. It can hurt feelings, and more importantly, it defiles the reputation of the MineRealm server. Who would want that to happen? No one really knows how people feel behind the screen. This is really bad stuff. To whoever is doing it currently or has done in the past, STOPIT. Don't do it. We really need some more enforcement for these kinds of things, its also super inapro-pro. I am sick and tired of it, and it should be on not only River and mine, but everyone's radar. Really, just everyone follow these simple guidelines: Act with Common Courtesy and Common Sense. It's more important than you think. And no more lauging about it, that makes it only worse.

That sounds nice and all, but are you seriosuly suggesting that there be a ban on any use of words like stupid or retarded? My phone is retarded, it acts in a slow and impeded manner. That is proper use of the word, and if someone is upset by it, then it is their own fault. Having a profanity filter is enough without having every little word typed be under such scrutiny. River was arguing with another player, words were exchanged, tempers flared, and if an insult slipped out... who cares? Nobody was being picked on, or ridiculed, or anything like that. The whole situation should have been in private chat and has now been blown way out of proportion.

This is Hurarious. If you auto-ban every player who insults another, The whole server would be wiped out with the exception of Hippoface, Non-Social hicks and Texas_hitman. All he would do is keep telling the Arguer that HE IS THE LAW.

The rules say "please respect admins, mods, and all other players" however this is not enforced. I'll be honest here, river is raging and to some (including myself) that can be laughable. Take a step back, think before you post. River might be going through a tough emotional moment and laughing will only make it worse. I also hate the insults and name calling in chat, maybe a 4 chances rule instead of only 2? These are my thoughts on the matter, I respect other's opinions but laughing at someone who is clearly upset will only make this worse.

Although I did lol hard at this initially, I do see where this problem is coming from.

Sure, one or two names should all go under the bridge, to be honest, as everyone has there moments. For instance, if someone is making a massive, tall farm and they break a water channel which then proceeds to wipe out ALL of their crop, they deserve to be called a moron.

But more than a couple of times and repeatedly, is just plain stupid, and offensive.

So please, show everyone some love.

OK, let's assume for the sake of discussion that it would be a good idea to impose new restrictions on chat for the sake of protecting someone's overly fragile feelings. Even if this is the case, are you seriously suggesting that helpbot auto-ban people for terms used for "name-calling"? If I say "my sheep are retarded" followed shortly by "all the enchantments I got today are stupid," "I'm such an idiot--just jumped in lava :\" and "lol that zombie is retarded," then I should be banned?

I don't think name calling is the main issue, it's a general lack of respect for each other. But hey, welcome to the internet, that's what happens when you're dealing with a group mostly composed of teenagers who haven't quite gotten used to the fact that their body has started producing testosterone.

You should have the common sense to moderate yourself when talking to others... but if people can't grasp that concept, then the mods should be a bit mindful if someone goes on a tear and hauls off on someone....

Implementing something in helpbot isn't realistic, and I guess people being polite online isn't either...
