The issue at hand is ensuring that all players experience the same conditions, so no unfair advantages are gained. Sure, you can turn off the depth fog with optifine... but players who don't use that option or who don't have optifine at all would not gain that benefit, so it would constitute an unfair advantage to the players who do use it.

I have got to agree. It is one of the most annoying things I have ever seen on minecraft. making buildings unground is pointless when u can't see them.

Personally, I LOVE snow, and I couldn't care less about rain. I actually kinda like it. If you REALLY don't want rain, don't bother other people by it, go download optifine. It has an option to turn it off.

Disabling weather is considered an unfair advantage, and can result in a ban. (Yes, we can tell)
