If there is no one camping the spawn nether portal, the nether on minerealm, with it's roads, is completely harmless. But I'd rather keep it as is than have it reset all the time...

I voted to keep as-is. I would also be ok with the the always-exit-from-the-same-portal proposal. Regularly resetting the nether would also work, though this would be inconvenient for reasons specified in Intelli's original post.

The only option I strongly dislike is completely disabling the Nether. While I can understand the reasoning for wanting it to be nerfed as a fast travel technique, completely removing it from the server would substantially impact the rest of the game:

1) No new blaze rods can be gathered. This means players can't craft new brewing stands unless they already have supplies of rods laying around; ultimately, the price of blaze rods / brewing stands would skyrocket, and new players joining the server would basically be unable to use them.

2) Cutting off the supply of blaze rods also cuts off the supply of blaze powder; potions of strength and fire resistance depend on those ingredients, even for players who already have brewing stands.

3) Removing ghasts would remove the ability to gather ghast tears; these already expensive ingredients used in potions of regeneration would be limited to whatever amount players currently have in stock.

4) Since netherwart only grows in the Nether, the supply of netherwart would be cut off. In the long run, this would perhaps have the biggest change on potion brewing. Since almost all potions start with netherwart as the first ingredient (to make "awkward potions" from which other potions are derived), very few potions would be available in the weeks/months following the removal of the Nether.

5) Nether brick, Nether fences, and netherrack supplies would be cut off. Although many players already have large stocks of netherrack from credit farming, this would impose something of a limit on how much these materials can be used in building. The brick and fence items are attractive construction materials, and netherrack is useful as an alternate light source.

6) Unless some other mandatory-PVP-on area was added, PVP in Minerealm would be almost completely eliminated outside of organized tournaments. While some players may regard this as a positive development, we ought to at least acknowledge that it would be a big change in gameplay.

In summary, the loss of sources of blaze rods, ghast tears, and netherwart would, over time, gradually eliminate most potion brewing from the server. Additionally, several building materials would become unavailable, and the dynamics of Minerealm's PVP system would be drastically altered. I therefore urge Intelli to refrain from completely disabling the Nether.

It's messed up, the nether that is.

Why I say this? The glowstone, the pvp conflicts, nether wart farming, griefing,...

I don't think travel is too big of an idea, I say we keep it as is.

How about adding an option: "Using a nether portal costs 1000rc every trip and is deducted automagically. If you don't have enough, you can't pass in or out of the nether."

Maybe if it were a one-time payment for the first use of each portal (to discourage overuse of portals for travel by making it less expensive to go via overworld). But to require a payment--1000rc, especially--every single time you go through a portal is simply absurd.
