They aren't based in the USA. I believe that is the reason. They have seized a small handful of their servers before and arrested who they thought was one of the leaders (turns out he wasn't) but that's about it I think. If pirate bay ever shuts down I'm going to be sad

they could have gotten access somehow and had them delete all copywrited material, rather than shutting it down as a whole for people who make freeware such as novelty programs or hell, even MC texturepacks.

Anon has actually crashed sites like this before. They are soon to become terrorists, in legal terms, I'd think.

Perhaps some type of outlaw, but not terrorists. Pretty sure that legally, being defined as a terrorist involves using violence or threats of violence to advance a political goal. So trying to charge Anonymous members with terrorism would probably require arguing that denial of service attacks against websites constitute violence/threats... a bit of a stretch, I'd say.

There will probably be arrests of Anonymous members in the coming weeks, but it'll be for things like obstructing free flow of commerce or unlawful use of computers, or something like that.

Obama has been taking a bill into consideration, in which any offensive against the government, be it IRL or internet-based, can be declared terrorists.

I do know they don't host it, but they do provide a gateway to download it... Its as good as providing pirated content, but I guess they are just evading the law....

I was in the same age range as most of you when they took down Napster. Look how well that turned out. Sucked for Napster but was a huge force of change that helped give birth to a legitimate industry. And was the cause of more innovation for continuing to share files freely.
I can afford to buy/stream for $ my digital entertainment files. I'm all parental and middle class now. And I still say SOPA NOPA.
Times change. The entertainment industry has and will continue to change. Trying to stop file sharing is like trying to bail out a sinking boat with a Dixie cup. They would be better off MacGyvering a raft so they can float, then find a way to manufacture the raft and tax the sales of it. Ya, I'm feeling metaphorical today
