Earlier today (Dec 27th) the server went down.

Initially, our hosting claimed it was a network configuration issue, which they were investigating.

However, more recently, they have updated us with the following:

Your server's IP has been blocked due to excessive packets per second. We will update you when there is more information or when the block has been lifted.

Therefore, we've gone ahead and ordered a new server from a different host:

Quad Core Xeon 1270 - 3.40GHz (Sandy Bridge)
16 GB DDR3 1333
50GB Micron RealSSD P300 SSD
100Mbps port
Hosted in SoftLayer

This new server costs $374/month. This will be adding approximately $100 extra to our monthly operating costs, as we still need to maintain our other physical servers.

This server should be up and running in several hours. However, we still need to be able to access our data from the old server, which we aren't currently able to do. We are reaching out to our current host to see what we can do about pulling the database, etc, from the server.

Intelli just wondering. You honestly don't have to tell me. How much in donations do you get each month and will the ammount coming in per month now cover the new server cost? I was just wondering cuz I could donate more monthly if need be. I am just trying to be money conscious.

Thanks for letting us know of the situation. It bites that it's gonna cost an extra $100 bucks a month to run the server. Although it's a drop in the bucket, I'll try to find another $20 bucks to send your way.

Classic hosting move....They're all smiles when they take your money, just don't use the service you pay for or they shut you down.

Still, $360 (usd) isn't that bad for the setup and the bits I know you're pushing. I'll try to send you something soon.

As much as I'm alright with computers and servers, previously running a game myself before... this is what I have got out of this news:

Oh minecraft - why have you forsaken us!? With your overly large packets and bits, especially with a lot of people connecting. On the next note:

you can get a rough idea of what he gets in donations a month from who posts what they've donated on the donations thread, some months better than others for sure. going by that thread alone it doesn't look like we were covering the ~$274 and now it's going up another $100.

I suppose we could really...there's no reason those folks who are always selling cool items in game for rc couldn't sell them for real $ (donations to the server, proved by posting on the donations thread in the standard format). Small amounts that people could afford and wouldn't break the bank but would add up. Like literally $1 or $2 at a time...wonder how much paypal takes for a percentage of each transaction so that it would still be helpful to Intelli?
