As others have said do not upgrade to 7 from XP. It's not pretty. Clean install all the way.

XP is fine for Minecraft and stoofs if that's all you really want it for right now. Definitely install a fresh copy of Win 7 though when you can.

As far as support for XP ending in a year that is wrong depending on the version of XP. Support and thus updates for XP Professional will not end until 2014.

OR you can be pro and go with linux.

As for Win7 vs WinXP, I love both. I'd recommend Windows 7 for compatibility though.

Windows 7- newest operating system
- all business (exept a few) use it

- some essential features aren't there (ability to drag-and-drop in a folder)
- hard to get used to after a lifetime of xp.

Windows xp- the peoples favourite, and the most used system across the world
- it would be quickest for lineant to get it

- being secluded by windows (internet explorer cannot be updated from 7 to 8(Firefox woo!)) much like apple and out of date iPod's.
- not capable of running some games to they're full extent (diablo 3).

I have windows seven and I wouldn't go back to XP ever, even for performance.

Its a much better UI and I like it, even though Windows 8 will come out soon.

Why not just go with any solid Linux distro + Windows 7. Use a virtual machine for XP if you want. OSX hackintosh will only work with specific hardware.

I just wanted to point out that Windows 8 is going to be a giant piece of garbage with look of a mobile OS.

Install Win7 then install Linux Mint or Ubuntu and dual boot like a real man.
