K, so you know those "Warehouse Auctions" you hear about sometimes right? Basically, they seal a warehouse, fill it with random crap, and then people bid on it. Winning bid wins the warehouse, and all the crap, or valuable things, in it.

This relates to my idea very well. See, yesterday I had an overstock of potions, so I took a ton of random ones, stuffed 'em in a small chest, and held a "Sealed Chest Auction" on the border of my realm. Once the bidding began, it escalated all the way up to 10.5K, and there's where it stopped. I made 10k credits from a ton of random potions. I theorize you could basically put anything into the chest, even auction a thing of dirt, although auctioning crappy stuff will most likely end the auctions since no one will trust anything. The idea behind this is for all the bidder knows, there are a crapton of high level weapons, or rare materials, or whatever. Then, you can make money and people can use the things they win. You don't even necessarily need to put useful things at all, but once again, it will ruin the business of "Sealed Chest Auctions".

I pitched an idea somewhat like this to all the banks awhile ago, where banned players chests would be auctioned off after a certain period of time.

The downside with this is that you made a killing from a ton of random potions, and that's good for you. Problem is, the person who bought them might not like the fact that they just spent 10k on random potions, or, god forbid, an empty chest that you hint is full of diamonds.

I see a few ways for this to work is if you had one specific, trusted realm hold the auctions for people. The realm would see what was in the chest, and maybe give a few hints to what is in the chest. Enthusiasm on the realm's part would be based on the contentss, i.e and empty chest would be "1 credit. Honestly folks, this one isn't really worth it?", and a chest stuffed with ore would be "I'm looking for 5k, pm me your offer of 5k!" and so on.

Individual realms would/could just possibly rip off everyone once and than sit back with all the moneys. And that would not be very nice... D=

Or you can go strip mining, getting credits from the blocks then from the ores you can sell.

Exactly. And really, I only got the 10k because it was on ImUrDaddy's other account, and he wanted to get rid of the extra credits on it and switch back to ImUr. So he bought the potions with the other account and picked them up with his main. The potions were all pretty good, a few instadamagers, instahealth, extended sprinting and extended fire resistance, stuff liek that.

EDIT: And, with this system, if a realm lies about the contents of a chest in an auction, they can be banned. They have to be 100% truthful with their hints. For mine, I said the chest had 30 random potions in it of moderate to large value. And they were.

Trinity Bank might do this with all the crap people leave behind lol.

I was the one who bought his chest if potions for 10.5k. The last bid was at 2-3k and I was on my alt, xIndestructibIe. That account had about 16k, I wanted to get rid of all my credits so I gave some random person 6k and bid way over the last bid for his chest.

Overall, I do think this is a good idea, so long as you keep it going and don't just put dirt in there. If people know you as the guy who sells a chest full of stuff, valuable stuff, they will come back for more. They won't come back if all you give out is dirt.
