Hey,

I hear people complaining why wheat for instance doesn't grow. I know why, in single player it seems when you or (someone else in the server) is close to the wheat it grows and otherwise it doesn't. So in the server when I planted fresh seeds and get to the nether, it grows lil or nothing at all.

If I stay it's done in 1 hour to 2 hours. I think this should be changed. Food is important for most beginners and advanced players. It's gets cash into peoples pockets and therefore in the economy. Food is of course also good for PvP-ing and you can think of dozends more.

I think it should be completely based on time. 15 Light and enough water the wheat should be done in like 2 hours. Otherwise it's sometimes more important to stay home than going to the nether to have fun doing PvP with friends or helping someone out building a new house. Which is just a shame. I'm mostly talking about beginners and of course some people don't like farming, which is fine, shared opinions and ideals is what an economy makes an economy at the end...

Any suggestions, ideas to my thread?

2 hours is a bit short of a time frame for it too be ready to harvest, as some people have farms which make 100's of wheat meaning if the just logged in every 2 hours to harvest then the economy would take a hit as bread would become worthless, i harvest mine daily and i have 2 farms, that is enough for me to sell and use for myself, so if it was ready in 2 hours i would have 100's of bread left over to sell, if everyone was in the same situation as me who makes bread, everyone would be selling all their spare bread and then the price of bread or wheat would drop dramatically

That makes sense, so longer would be better, but what u think about the time suggestion (based on server time in irl hours) and not the time your close to the wheat? 2 hours is way to short considering the price of bread as it is now.

The time I don't know as I don't play long on the servers. But I think people shouldn't be punished for not staying at their homes and also not punished for being in an area where no one, or only a few people live...

Your probably in an area where people pass by. So you don't have that, I'm alone in my realm, when I'm not there it doesn't grow, it just doesn't. Someone passing-by every half hour can make the crops grow already...

I think this can be implanted easily, for you it won't matter, it will probably grow slightly faster because it updates in time not when someone passes your farm. For some it's a whole new thing for them to get crops. Yesterday someone waited for over 4 hours and the crops weren't growing at all. Light was at highest and water was there. So it should have grown...

That's really good to hear! I hope Intelli comes here to confirm that.... That it seems this will be solved soon.

Here's a couple thoughts I have after making my crazy wheat farm:

Why is wheat awesome?
Because in 1.9+ wheat can be used on sheep/cows to breed. Using wheat for bread is a sub-optimal use. Why do you want sheep/cows? Because cows drop leather and beef. They also drop XP. Why do you want XP? Enchants! :D

Best way to harvest?
Water works, but honestly it's not the best way. For some reason some of the blocks dont drop wheat/seeds. If you're really in a hurry, you can rig up some sort of redstone system to remove the light source if you're underground. The wheat uproots itself in darkness :D Then you can use water to collect it in to an easy place to loot.
Protip: if you put a fence post under the dirt block that you've tilled, the tilled soil block will never revert back in to dirt. Don't ask me why, it just works. You can walk all over it and it will have no effect. You basically only ever have to till the dirt block once. Notch may patch it before release, but it works for now.
It should be obvious, but have all crops within 4 blocks of a water source/flowing water to make your crops grow faster.

Minecraft only updates blocks within 17 chunks of a player. 17x16(the size of a chunk)= 272= the maximum distance in blocks that a player should be to have your crops grow. Have your farm within this distance of a busy area, and your crops will grow in about 2 hours. Farther away takes about a day (anecdotal, but fairly reliable in my experience)
