putting a block over the chest is very different than the walls situation because of the way lag works in minecraft. If you (ab)use lag to get through a wall, it should jump you back to your starting point, but will often let you open a chest on the other side of the wall before it jumps you back. With the block on top of the chest, the chest will check for the block before showing whats in it, thus preventing someone from tricking it with lag, because the chest checks with server first before player.(or at least this was the way is used to work. No idea if its different now.)

Or it could just be that the realm script was slow, which could esaily happen if the server is getting hammered by say, someone doing something stupid with redstone or water or dupe hacks.

Then you lied. It's impossible for someone to grief a chest if there's a block over it. Unless it's a half block. Sorry, even with lag it's not possible.

Good Idea:
Make a vault room with a 2 block thick wall of obsidian. Make 2 iron doors to get in and hide the switches. And then put blocks over chests.

Or you could even make an inaccessible vault that you have your /home set in.

Bad Idea:
Leave your chests out in the open.

All of my chests that I keep valuable items in (Diamond, iron, etc.) are well hidden and blocked off, in a room that can only be entered via warp or someone letting you inside. If you are stolen from, do not complain. Do not rage and start spamming chat. Learn from your mistake, move EVERYTHING, and leave decoys with mild amounts of valuables to make thieves think they found your stash. There is no such thing as overkill.

It was in a sealed room, no doors, no openings at all, blocks on them. i went to my chest room and somehow one of the blocks were missing from on top of one of the chests (i'm guessing because of the roll back), and everything from all 4 chests were gone.

Or you could even make an inaccessible vault that you have your /home set in.

i did that, plus blocks on top.

it happened.

Then you were robbed by a magician using SORCERY. Accept the loss, move your realm and items to some remote desert, preferably a few thousand blocks from spawn, and set up shop there. Magicians tend to move on after they rob a particular target.
