This has been suggested and knocked down. The Nether is far too small a place for realms to be auctioned off. By offering block protection, you completely change the PvP dynamic as it currently is. At the moment, the Nether is the one place where combat is even close to the old chaotic wilderness in 2.0. Now you want to nerf that, too?

I don't think this would be feasible even if Intelli wanted to make it happen. Private realms come in 50x50 sections, and the nether compresses the X/Z plane by a factor of 8. So a 50x50 overworld realm would be equivalent to... a 6.25x6.25 nether realm. Unless the realm system changes (unlikely) to have a realm length and width of some multiple of 8, it would not really work out well.

No, you don't automatically get realms down there. You have to go down and get them. Additionally, the realms are not 50x50 in the nether, more like 10x10 or 20x20.

And cogohst, I see some of your point. The ability to block off your realm could make things a bit difficult. but if someone who had 1 realm only had a 10x10 plot in the nether, it's not that bad. Only huge realms could have a sizable plot in the nether. You would need 25 realms to get a 50x50 area in the nether. Also, Cogohst, building in the wilderness in 2.0 was allowed, and griefing it wasn't. That's not the case with the nether. I'm trying to make the nether more or less safe to build in, without taking too much away from PVP.

Additionally, the nether will be completely wiped and made infinite for the 1.9 wipe.

Actually, griefing in the nether is not allowed. I got someone banned for griefing our nether portal building today. Things are just more likely to get griefed in the nether.

That is true, but the protection offered by realms is invaluable on the surface. You should see the exit from Abyssus nether portal, and no doubt others. The mods don't have time to ban nether griefers, or at least rarely. So something like this would help everyone.

Not sure if a realm system is the way to go though. The whole charm of the nether is the fact that it is nomansland and very dangerous. With realms in the nether you could create a tunnel that only you can acces so you could travel without any danger which would be pretty lame.

Also the roads in the nether seem to be holding up against any griefing at the moment. As long as there are enough people using them and patching them up it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd just like to be able to purchase realms in the nether like the overworld. Same exact system with no connections between the two. Also, to those saying things along the lines of "the nether is too small" or "the overworld to nether block ratio wouldn't allow it" I'd like to point out that in the near future the nether will be practically infinitely large and there's no reason I can think of that the same 50x50 plot system couldn't simply be applied to the nether.

Personally, the only reason I'd like to be able to own land in the nether is to be able to make secure portal connections between the two worlds. Constantly ending up in your neighbor's portal or finding that somebody's put a curtain of lava over your nether side portal can get a bit frustrating after a while.

At the very least, we should have portals be protected. I am sick of running through tunnels, looking for a portal out and only finding half-destroyed ones.

Too easy. PVP always on.

My idea: you buy 20x20 plots.
Blocks destroyable but take x5 time to do so.
TNT/fire works, spreads but also x5 harder in protected realm.

Also we need option to change terrain in neth to be able to move
