All depends on how much you want those realms. The task of typing out all those commands would hopefully discourage people from buying a whole mess of realms really fast, which would more than likely happen.
So we'll end up with a bunch of unnamed and un-motd'ed realms.
Great.
It will just frustrate players who want to buy large plots of land at once. I want to expand my fort in 50x50 increments, not 10x10. Most infrastrcture in cities (roads, buildings, walls) is already set up for 50x50 realms.

No.
Give a reason. That's how debate and discussion works.
Don't have to.

Yes but 10x10 would allow cities to be more freeform as opposed to being constrained by huge 50x50 sections. It may take a bit more work but the end result would save RC for those buying as they would only be buying what they need as opposed to what they need and a chunk of what they don't.

I was actually going to suggest the same thing. I kind of like the idea of making realms smaller, but dividing them into 10x10 (25 new realms per old realm) sounds too small. By having 4 new realms per old realm, there's still added flexibility, a decently high price per realm of 2500 credits (to avoid the problem of tons of noobs leaving junky realms everywhere), and an only modest increase in the number of commands that need to be typed.

But if the choice is only between 50x50 and 10x10, I voted to keep the current system.

Please no. Please.

The micro-managing and the possibilities this opens up for trolls is just going to drastically change the fun factor of this server. I don't believe it would make things any better for new players either. One day they log in, buy their little chunk, and the next day all the ones around them are bought up by other new players. Now they can't either get to their house or it's a massive pain. The complaints you and your mods will have to deal with will skyrocket.

Make them work for it. It's part of the fun of this server.

I invited 2 RL friends to the survival server. In 2 days they could afford a 50x50 realm (more now), so I don't think this is neccessary to help new players. They just need a little advice and a sponsor to protect their stuff.

I can also see micro-realms being used to grief other players. Consider this hypothetical situation of someone pissing a wealthy player off. We'll use me as an example. I could seal my outer walls and liquidate my inner realms, producing about 300,000 credits. I could lay seige to an area almost as large as spawn city by building a dirt wall 10 high. with a 2-wide trench on either side. The current expense prevents me from doing so.

Lastly, many players who would otherwise leave the server after 1-3 days will buy a cheap realm and stick around. This seems good at first, but most days the server is stressed with 100+ members during peak hours. I could easily see the sever population staying maxed out for the majority of the day from an influx of new players. Have you considered what you'll do if the server is consistently full? Can it handle that? Can you afford to get more bandwidth and a better server?

I appreciate the effort Intelli, but I think this isn't needed.

How about we combine both options? All I could think of is how useful it would be for building and protecting infrastructure systems. It is a good thing that 10k credits scares some players away, its like a patience test (like finding public land, whereas finding public land is patience test level one, buying a realm is patience test level 2, trying the new player's patience is how we keep alot of bad people out of this server, for example: thieves, most thieves steal because they are too lazy or impatient to get the stuff themselves (note: stealing is in no way difficult)).

Kind of off topic but:
Maybe for infrastructure protection we could add something like:
/realm purchase_subway <number of blocks in front of the player that they wish to purchase>
-only works on Y:30 and only protects the blocks that make up the tunnel walls and everything inside them, so blocks Y:29 to Y:33, centered on players location (easy, stand between the rails and type command), charge player by the block of length.

Any other method of protecting subways without making large areas of land hard to purchase would also be more than appreciated.

TL;DR
I think it would be bad for the server community quality for realms to be any smaller than they are now, but a different subway/infrastructure protection system would be very nice.

If someone uses realms to try to grief a player, I have a simple method of fixing the problem. /ban [username] purchasing realms for griefing. Because of this, I would not expect it to happen, but that option is there .

I can see 10x10's being useful in cities so you can divide up land among multiple players. They provide more versatility, which is kind of nice. However, they can make organizing and managing your realms harder, because you have a lot more to deal with. I can see good and bad to both sides of the argument.

10X10 realms would be really cool, but there are so many ways it could be abused, micromanaging, griefing, tons of crappy un-named realms overcrowding areas, ect. the list goes on. But it does provide a closer community. Instead of having a town the size of 4+ realms and only having 5 or so people reside there towns would become smaller and more efficiently run, conserving space, being made up of 10X10 realms.
