i dont get this.... how does fps work?

FPS= Frames per second.

In other word; faster FPS means smoother gameplay, while lower FPS means more choppy gameplay.

exactly. i still dont get it. someones computer my run well with 3 fps, and then someones computer might not run as well with 2000.

I don't think it counts as much in multiplayer. I know I had to change something to make single player not choppy.

FPS is how many images per second your pc renders for a certain game. For a smooth game experience, so without stuttering, you need ~30 fps, 60 is optimal.
3 fps is like a slideshow, no way that is 'smooth'.

Playing on -or offline has nothing to do with it.

I can make a video of how smooth it is when it is anywhere near 3. I have decide I more often sit in the low double digits then 3.

Edit* 3fps is sort of slideshowish. 10 is fairly smooth though.
