Expand the borders of the overworld 2000 blocks in each direction and an appropriate amount in the nether after the update to 1.13.
This will result in a world roughly twice the area of the current one.
The terrain generator for the overworld and nether has not changed since the last public land wipe for 1.7.2, so land will line up mostly cleanly along the current borders.
Pros:
- Simple method to introduce new blocks, mobs, and biomes that requires minimal development time and effort
- Does not disturb current land
Cons:
- Requires more disk space
This may be implemented in addition to (i.e. independently of) other methods of introducing the new blocks, mobs, and biomes.
