Is it just me, or is the new steam winter sale is pretty awesome?
i mean, games like Skyrim and The Witcher for around 50% off, it's crazy.
Speaking of which, is Skyrim worth the $5? i'm trying to decide if i should get it.

I've put in about 450 hours into Skyrim over the years, its an experience on its own, but with mods its incredible. If youre any sort of RPG fan with a universe similar to LOTR you'll definitely get a lot of enjoyment out of it regardless if you've played previous Elder Scrolls games.

Imo Skyrim is worth way more than just 5 bucks, so it's pretty much a steal at this point.
It's graphics are pretty good on their own with mods that make them even better. Same people that made the fallout games (Bethesda), so if you've played or seen any of those (excluding 1 or 2) it's a bit like those minus the whole nuclear wasteland setting.
Honestly, if you're still thinking about getting it I think you should get the legendary edition for the 10 bucks it currently is. I'd bet you'd get your money's worth out of it, if not more.

Get Undertale.

It's probably the best game I've ever played, personally.

Undertale is a terrible excuse for a game.

Don't get it.

It really depends on what you expect and what you're into. I am not personally a big fan of Undertale, but my brother is the biggest fan there could be. It's an oddity, for sure, and really separates people into the two extremes. I'd say if it's on a decent price chop go ahead and try it. If you don't like it, at least you didn't pay full price. If you enjoy it, try to get all the endings you can and keep replaying it. Again, it's a personal choice. It's designed to be remniscent of much older games with frequent oddities.
Just my (trying to be neutral) two cents.

Every game will have people who dislike it, but when something has a score of 93/100 ("Universal Acclaim") on Metacritic and has generally received an incredibly positive reception, you can't really claim that it's outright bad. But more to the point, why hate on a game that people like? If you dislike it, feel free. If you think people shouldn't get it, explain why. But there's no need to be so harsh. We're all friends here.

Anyway, to be more specific, if you dislike bullet hell games, games with silliness in them, or games with intense or genuinely emotional plotlines, you'll probably dislike it.

I've never been a fan of 8-bit games, but I heard so much good stuff about it that I tried it anyway and loved it. In my personal opinion, it's got fun mechanics, loveable and interesting characters, compulsively playable music, and a fascinating and meaningful plot that works both on its own and as a great commentary on video games in general. If you've got $8 to spend on a game and that sounds interesting to you, I'd recommend it. There's a demo you can try out for free, so that's a good way to see if you'll like it. And if you don't like it, that's fine too.

Do yourself a favour and get Skyrim and a basston of mods graphics and quest mods. There are some really big mods out there that are basically small expansions to the game. Endless replayability.

Also, get Witcher 3, even if you haven't played the first two games or read the books. Best thing to happen to Western RPGs, much better than Skyrim in terms of vanilla gameplay and story. If it had a good modding community it would be the best game in existance. NEW EXPANSION SOON AJDJCKSMCKFIEIDIVJTNSJ SO PSYCHED AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Mind you, all Witcher games are (~slightly) flawed masterpieces. I'd also recommend getting Witcher from gog.com because firstly it's cheaper and secondly it's DRM free.

Also, Final Fantasy VII is on sale currently for cheap.
