So this just hit steam as a standalone title with early access.
I'm curious if it's worth trying?

*puts on old man tone*
"In my day game testers were paid to play games to iron out the bugs not pay for the privilege"

Edit: It's also worrying that there isn't a single negative comment against it in the community reviews on steam too

1. randomly ralling unconscious and not getting back up
2. cant pick up anything, and when i try to, sometimes some of my gear disapears.
3. randomly dieing.
4. cannot open doors.
5. zombie spawn is broken( i walked through zelenogorsk to find only two zombies who did not even agro)
biggn82 wrote:As of right now I can't suggest this title unless you feel like writing logs of bugs everyday and you just purely want to help the devs with limited enjoyment. Right now the game is basically a demo because you will fall unconscious after some time of playing (2-3 hours maybe) and will not wake back up as far as I know, meaning you must restart every time this happens losing everything you have looted, I suppose you could run to your body in hopes of getting it back and then do it all over again. Pretty shameful to release the game with this bug in it, alpha or not. So far I have not found a remedy to this, walking, sitting etc don't seem to do anything or rest your character. You will constantly have text messages saying you are thirsty, you are hungry, you are unsteady or tired etc etc etc, non stop text messages going off. Even if you drink or eat, it'll say you're thirsty or hungry right after the fact. The potential for the game to be awesome is there but right now its in a ♥♥♥♥ poor state and on top of it, all the servers are night time only, yeah, pretty lame, it's like they are trying to hide stuff from us so they make it night only, maybe graphical problems or something who knows. Game is not worth the money right now. The mod itself is way more playable and enjoyable at this point. I look forward to this in the future and could enjoy it more and see what all it has to offer if you character didn't pass out everytime you play, right now its just not enjoyable knowing you're not going to get anywhere far. There are some cool things too like being able to add a sight to your gun if you find it or a different stock etc, but again you're just going to pass out so what's the point? If I'm wrong and I see a remedy (which no remedy can be found on the passing out from what I searched) maybe I'll change this but as of right now save your money and stick to the mod.
|ax|Rhino wrote:Not a worthwhile buy at this point. In my 15 minutes of playing I searched a whole town (center of map) , found 2 rotten oranges and one dead body with minimal loot. Saw ONE zombie. Player animations were awkwards, clunky. My characture / player seems to glide along and every action was lagging behind my commands leaving me feeling disconnected from the game play. There really isnt much to do at this point and ultimately I died, quite randomly, after one warning that said my mouth was dry. ????

The interface is bland. The inventory system looks like something I could have thrown together in 15 minutes. They haven't even bothered to replace the Arma 2 TOH interface elements with designs of their own. It looks and feels and plays like they dumped the mod into the engine, upgraded the map and changed the loot tables. Created lots of clothing and added lootable cars. Feels like about 2 months worth of work.

You have to wonder what the hell they have been doing for a year and half when the game is this lacking. They should have waited another year and half if this is all they have to show off at this point.

You may pay a bit more down the road but really isn't any reason to jump on this right now and in the age of pay to preview / alpha test it makes no sense to bankroll a project that seems to be stuck in 1st gear.

Dean Hall was quoted as saying , "On those constantly moving goalposts, he said that "the worst thing we could do would be to release too early. Flat out, that's the stupidest thing we could do. [The alpha launch] is going to be riddled with bugs, but the one thing I don't want it to be riddled with is terrible multiplayer, it's a multiplayer game."

Seems like he forgot that and went for the buzz cash grab. To be honest Warz was more polished than this.

And yes...for those of you quoting the dayz fanboy mantra (which started with the mods release and Arma 2) ..Its an alpha. Its an alpha. Its an alpha again....still.
Sharp wrote:Way to early to be buying this game at the current price of $30. Already ran into a few bugs of playing just under an hour, most noticeably I fell maybe 4ft and ended up dying :/

Early game is pretty rough since you only start off with a flashlight and no melee weapon at all. Takes forever just to find anything in this game and coupled with arma2s awful CQB it makes for some intense frustration as you try to navigate through passageways only do end up running into walls.

Really hoping this game gets ported over to arma 3's engine since it is much much better, especially for indoors.
Bryde-San wrote:As a Dayz enthusiast I can't really say I'm having a lot of fun with the current stage of this game. Though they fixed a lot of annoying things like "Everything may break your bones", they added some other stuff that is just really annoying.

Starting from:
You drink/eat (a lot), the character says "Ok I'm not thirsty anymore ... I'm thirsty". He's going from "I'm okay" to "I'm thirsty/hungry" just two seconds after you ate/drank.
Consciousness doesn't show you how long it lasts - which is okay, because it just lasts FOREVER. If you ever fall unconscious for whatever reason, you have to restart. There's nothing you can do about it and others also can't. You also drop unconscious for no reason ... "I'm tired" ... well, press F3 to rest 5 minutes, get up. "I'm tired."

The Looting System etc is really nice, but feels slightly glitchy. Picking items up is sometimes a pain in the ...

Lights penetrate through walls, making it impossible to play at night because EVERYONE can see you if you're not using NVG or something.

I'm very sure they'll fix all of these issues since it's obviously an Alpha and needs to get a lot of stuff done before it's playable. However, at the current state, I really can't recommend it. Wait for it to hit beta and it will be one of the best games around.

Bumping this as I just bought into the early access and wondered if any here have it and want to show me the ropes. Preferably Aussie gamers, but I'm not picky

Played the mod for a decent while, I hear the SA Alpha is quite similar, but I wasn't impressed enough to go for the SA.

I'd advise staying away from players entirely, its KOS (Kill on sight) environment. If you're a coward, stick to low population servers, or go all out and hope for the best. DayZ is all about the player interaction, if you die, but to something interesting, don't get too angry, its better than being sniped from 1km off.

Make sure you have plenty of food and drink, they can be found in civilian houses mostly. When your geared up a bit you might as well head towards the airfield in the north west, it has the most military loot. The major cities, Electro and Cherno have plenty of civilian loot, but will be full of players so steer clear if you can. There are maps available online.

Good luck.

I enjoyed the few hours I've put in so far, although I did go for a low population server while I get to grips with it.
Have yet to encounter other players. But the map has me confused as hell.
Time to brush up on navigation via the sun until I find a GPS.
I've died once (by choice) to see how long it takes zombies to kill you. It takes a while....
Found some gear and a rife, yet only ammo for shotguns >.<
Yes I realize it's early alpha but the potential is there. I just hope it doesn't resort to a pay-to-win model like so many other MMO's.

I do have to ask though, is your toon persistent or server based?
Pretty sure I've changed servers and still using the same toon.

If anyone is considering this I would give a hearty recommendation for it.
$30 towards funding for this isn't much and you won't regret it, unless you're one of these numpties that expects a fully playable experience out of an alpha model.

Only downside, servers were down when I went to play this evening

Persistent. You can even switch servers just before you die or once you get in a spot of trouble and keep all your stuff, no problem.
It's a really annoying thing to do, but as far as I know you can do it.

Regarding navigation, pull up an online map, it's very easy to get your bearings using roads and buildings. Cutting cross country is a little harder though for sure, but you can acquire a compass.

You start off randomly spawned in the area of Chanarus, most likely near the coasts. You are equipped with clothes, a battery, and a flashlight. Shortly afterwards you are hungry and thirsty.

Your main objective is to find buildings and search for food and drink and then a melee weapon. Don't know where you are at? Find a online map of Chanarus and look for town signs and landmarks. Once you've found where you are at, make your way to the nearest town for supplies. Keep in mind your current clothes allow for very little inventory, so you'll want to look for new clothes in order to carry more items.

OK, so you've managed to find a can of soda, a can of tuna, and some gloves. Good start. Now you'll want to continue... wait. Is that a zombie you hear? Yep. He sees you. Go back inside that house and shut the door. Everyone knows they don't know how to use doors because THEY CAN CLIP THROUGH THE FREAKING WALLS!!! AHHHHHH!!!

Alright, after you've put down the zombie with a hammer, you'll want to take care of the warm red stuff squirting out from your body. Take off your shirt and rip it into rags. Now use the rags as bandages. Good as new. Carefully move on to the... What? Hungry again? But you just ate 3 minutes ago. Pull out the can of beans you found and... crap. You need something sharp to open the can. Keep looking. Maybe the guy rapidly coming at you screaming "HEY YOU! I WANT TO AXE YOU A FEW QUESTIONS!" can be of some assistance. Calmly face him and...

Is that some fruit on the ground? Oh lucky day! Pick up the fruit, dust off the mold, and take a bite. Feeling a little sick? It's probably nothing. Just keep moving...
