Any clever player would kill the golems first, and since they don't respond unless you hit a villager... (according to previous posts)
YOu could just slaughter the golems and then have free reign over the villagers.
Iron golems aren't actually that hard to kill, they aren't the mad killing machines you want them to be. >.<

Golems created with blocks will not.

You sure about that, BSG? VVolfie created a few golems at spawn during the Mist last month, and they became aggressive when attacked.

Spawned golems (as opposed to built ones) will definitely attack a player if the golem is attacked. Now it's pretty simple to keep out of their attack range and pick them off. Only takes a few hits with an enchanted sword and, if you don't get to close, their pinwheeling arm attack animation won't even show. This is how it works on Minerealm as I've had to kill a few golems that spawned in odd places on my iron farm.
