I also wish to join the ignorance party. What is the mist?
Basically, on a random night, a notice will appear saying 'A dark mist has fallen over the land, pvp is now enabled' or something like that. Buttons are no longer usable, and the entire world is free pvp.

I don't see how that sort of attitude is going to help build support for your position.

Although I overall disagree with you on this, I think both sides have a point. It's true that PVP is a normal part of minecraft multiplayer and a valid way to play and enjoy the game, but it's also true that this change has made it a bit more difficult for those who prefer building and mining -- also a valid way to play and enjoy the game -- to avoid PVP.

In any case, declaring that disagreement somehow indicates a "lack of sense" isn't going to help reach an agreement or prevent the "arguments and hatred" that you claimed to be concerned about in the first post of this thread.

Personally I dislike PVP a lot, it often causes arguments and problems, and causes dislike amongst players on occasion. I play minerealm to avoid other servers that have PvP as a main feature. I enjoy a fun community, building, exploring etc, and do not wish to see this being a element of minerealm. I would prefer if the mist was opt-in/opt-out, or removed completely, I see no problem with pvp being nether only or optional. It has potential for exploitation, and newer players would be rinsed immediately by the experts.. this tempts me to look for survival/build servers elsewhere, to yet again, avoid PvP.

Hey,
Just wanted to weigh in for this topic. In regards to the mist i really like the feature as minecraft is a survival game and minerealm was such a peaceful mode of game play im excited for this to bring a danger element to the game. I dont PVP much or at all but i just really like this danger factor. In regards to the new players or camping i suggest either:

a) 10 - 15 seconds of invincibility where you cant cause any damage and cannot receive

or

b) The four spawn realms are immune to the mist's effects. Now i know what your going to say Rip what happens if they just sit on the border and run in and out. Well if they run out and run in they have a 30 second timer until their pvp is then turned off, which means they are still in pvp.

or

C) Ditch the mist and turn the difficulty up on the gameplay :)

Anyways they are just suggestions.
Thanks Rip

What would the opinions be if the mist had existed before any of us joined?

What if you had the choice to pvp in the nether, but this past update Intelli made it so pvp was permanently enabled in the nether? Would everyone throw their arms up in disagreement? Before, the only threat in the nether would basically be by your own doing (falling in lava, getting killed by mobs, etc.). After implementation, players are allowed to kill you. Consequently, the nether becomes more vacant as it is now.

Why hasn't anyone suggested pvp be voluntary in the nether? Isn't this equal to the mist?

Point being, I think we've become accustomed to certain things. It's a lot harder for us to make things more challenging than it is to make things easier.

Most people wouldn't have put any work into the server, and they'd be long gone. With the sort of players that would be around, griefing would be so rampant that there wouldn't be staff willing to spend so much time repairing it.

Hypothetically, yes.

Those are entirely different situations. People who don't like PVP can simply avoid the Nether. It isn't too hard. The Mist, on the other hand, is unavoidable, uncontrollable, and unpredictable. It takes away the choice that makes MineRealm unique.

Its sad to see a feature drive players away in order to appeal to those who probably would have stayed anyways if this feature had never been implemented.

Also, considering how the poll is, if this feature had been proposed before implementation, it would have been rejected.

Are you really this angry that this is a thing? If you don't want to partake in the bloodshed, then don't. The only PVP that happens is basically right at spawn. So as long as you stay away for 5 mins, you'll be fine. Our map is so far spread out that the chances of seeing someone when you aren't at spawn are very minimal. What's preventing you from just continuing to work on whatever you are doing?

There are plenty of things that also try to kill you. MineCraft is supposed to be a little dangerous! The only way this would be a huge hinderance is if you were working on a spawn realm with lots of materials and someone came to try and kill you. But as soon as the announcement is made, all you have to do is /home away.

My /home is like 2k blocks away and I would be amazed to see anyone randomly wondering about at the same time I was. To be honest, I would be amazed if anyone bothered to come find you even like 500 blocks away from spawn.

Not to mention, the mist happens for 5 mins every 2-4 hoursish. This is such a minor hinderance.

TLDR, If you don't want to partake in bloodshed, just stay away from spawn and trade for a few mins.
